Report: Two Eagles offensive lineman could call it quits this offseason following Jeff Stoutland departure
Following the surprising departure of Eagles’ legendary offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, reports emerged that the team could also be on the verge of losing two starters up front.
Per Jeff McLane, both Lane Johnson and Landon Dickerson could potentially hang up the cleats this offseason. Johnson walking away was always a possibility. At 35 years old, coming off an injury-riddled 2025, and with Stoutland no longer in the building, retirement feels more realistic than ever. That said, McLane reports he still expects Johnson to return for at least one more season.
McLane on the Eagles future Hall of Fame lineman mulling retirement:
“In terms of Lane and his future, here’s what I can say: He’s definitely not sure if he’s coming back or not, is the impression I get. You would think maybe this would make it a little less likely,” McLane said. “When you’re looking at retirement, it’s, ‘Can my body do it again? Do I want to do it again? Lane has a very high standard for himself.”
While Johnson retiring wouldn’t be all that surprising, Landon Dickerson is the name that really caught my attention. And unfortunately, it’s not hard to see why someone like him could walk away, even at just 27 years old.
McLane described Dickerson as “even more of a question mark,” and NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo backed that up, saying he’s heard similar rumblings about Dickerson and his future with the Eagles.
As we all know, Dickerson wasn’t fully healthy throughout the 2025 season. Playing deep into February the year before certainly didn’t help. He just never looked like the player we’ve come to expect.
Dickerson has battled injuries his entire career. In today’s NFL, retiring at 27 isn’t unheard of, especially when you already have a Super Bowl ring. It would still be shocking to see Dickerson hang it up, but from his perspective, it would make some sense.
I’m holding out hope both of these guys return for the Eagles. If I had to guess, we’ll have a clearer answer within the next month or so.
