USA Men's Hockey Gold Medal Game Olympics 2026

There are way too many Americans complaining about an 8am start time for what could be a USA Men’s Hockey gold medal game on Sunday

Anybody in the USA melting down about the Men’s Olympic hockey gold medal game being played at 8:10am ET on Sunday needs to relax immediately. The outrage floating around social media over an early puck drop is absurd, especially when you actually look at the schedule and understand how this tournament is structured.

Here’s the layout for the final weekend of the 2026 Olympic men’s hockey tournament:

2026 Olympic Men’s Hockey Semifinals:

Fri. Feb. 20
(1) Canada 🇨🇦 vs. (4) Finland 🇫🇮 – 10:40am ET
(2) USA 🇺🇸 vs. (3) Slovakia 🇸🇰 – 3:10pm ET

Bronze Medal 🥉 Game:
Sat. Feb. 21 – 2:40pm ET

Gold Medal 🥇 Game:
Sun. Feb. 22 – 8:10am ET

Quick Note: I really don’t like everyone mailing in USA making the Gold Medal game when we still have to beat Slovakia but I get it. We want Canada. It will be the biggest hockey game in YEARS, etc. etc.

Quinn Hughes delivers in overtime, sends USA Men’s Hockey to the semifinals

Anyways, that 8:10am ET slot is not random and it’s not some anti-American conspiracy.

Someone tell the nerds that it is the final event of the Olympics.

It has to be played before the closing ceremony. It has to fit into international broadcast windows. It has to work for a host nation that is not operating on Eastern Time. That is how global events work.

Lock in Patriots, we have a Gold Medal to win

Honestly, I love waking up and having what could very well be USA vs Canada in the Men’s Hockey Gold Medal Game.

Plus, it’s Sunday morning so maybe everyone should stop pretending this is on Wednesday at 8am. We are far from a random weekday where you are scrambling to log into a Zoom meeting.

It’s Sunday. If you cannot get yourself up at 8:10am Eastern to watch what could very well be the biggest international hockey game in over a decade, that says more about you than it does about the schedule.

If you are on the West Coast and it is 5:10am, welcome to the life of every hockey player who has ever had a 6am ice slot growing up. Most hockey fans in this country played the sport and have been up before sunrise, lacing skates in freezing rinks, their entire childhood.

You think they are rattled by a 5am Olympic gold medal game? Please.

There is also something uniquely awesome about morning international hockey. The house quiet while the stakes are massive. It feels different from the usual primetime routine and that is exactly why it is great.

Travesty?! You get a full day of Olympic emotion before lunch.

These Olympics have been fantastic because of the time zone difference. You flip on the TV at 4am and there are medals being decided. Curling. Speed skating. Moguls. Ski mountaineering. Hockey. It runs all day and wraps up by dinner.

That is an all-day sports buffet, not an inconvenience.

The only people truly furious about this are adults who have somehow convinced themselves that waking up at 8am on a Sunday is cruel and unusual punishment.

Check the quote tweets. It’s honestly pathetic lol >>

It is not the blue collar guys and salt of the earth patriots who bleed American. It’s not the ones who don’t fear a few beers in the morning while rooting in THE United States of America on the international stage. Hell, it’s not even the parents who are already awake because their kids decided 6am is a reasonable start time.

We are simply dealing with grownups acting like children in the most anti-American way possible. Someone tell these nerds that this is the Olympics and we have the Men’s Hockey Gold Medal game, ideally one that will feature USA versus whoever survives the other semifinal matchup between Canada and Finland.

This is the biggest stage the sport has had in years. If that is not enough to set an alarm and pour a cup of coffee (or beer), then maybe you need to check your American privilege because clearly, it’s not at the level we’ll need it to be if we want to beat the ever-living shit out of Canada and bring home a gold medal.

The rest of us will be up, caffeinated, possibly drunk, and locked in.

USA, USA, USA!!

  1. Smart to volunteering miss out on a massive TV rating and payout. Hope they dont come around begging for funding in 2030

  2. shut up – no one cares what you think and 8am is a stupid time for the game – the rest of the Olympics is meaningless anyway
