It’s Time: USA Men’s Hockey vs. Canada for a Gold Medal in the 2026 Winter Olympics

This is the one. Pour yourself a stiff breakfast cocktail, make the coffee, do whatever you have to do because USA vs. Canada for Olympic gold in men’s hockey tips off at 8:10 AM ET this morning on NBC and you do not want to miss it.

USA vs CANADA – FOR GOLD

Here’s what’s at stake beyond the obvious.

It has been 46 years since USA Hockey last won gold at the Olympics. Forty six. Unless you are 52 years old or older, you have never once in your life watched the United States win an Olympic gold medal in men’s hockey. Not once.

The Miracle on Ice was 1980 and if you were alive for it you were probably in diapers. Most of us have watched this program grow, develop, rack up World Junior titles, win a World Championship gold last summer, come one overtime goal away from it all in 2010, and still never get over the hump at the Olympics.

This is what all of that has been building toward.

Here is the part that makes this different from every other time. This isn’t a miracle situation. Nobody would be shocked if Team USA goes out there and wins this thing cleanly.

They have Connor Hellebuyck in goal, a three-time Vezina winner who has been a wall all tournament. They have the Hughes brothers. They have speed up front that Canada is going to have trouble keeping up with all morning.

They have everything they need and they know it.

Canada is Canada.

Nine gold medals. The most dominant program in the history of the sport. But for the first time in a long time the Americans are walking into a gold medal game against them without needing a miracle. They just need to go play their game.

Sidney Crosby, 38 years old, is a game-time decision after missing the semis with a lower body injury. The last time these two played for gold was Vancouver 2010 and Crosby scored the overtime winner. If he plays today, that storyline writes itself. Either way, this is must-watch television and it starts in a few hours.

Today is the chance to change that.

When: Sunday February 22
Time: 8:10 AM ET / 7:10 AM CT / 5:10 AM PT
TV: NBC Stream: Peacock or NBCOlympics.com

They know who they’re playing for. Go take it. Enter American history.
