Bryce Harper casually broke the Aidan Miller injury news before the Phillies did
Leave it to Bryce Harper to casually drop the Aidan Miller injury news on a Spring Training broadcast before the organization has said a single word about it.
Harper was on Sunday’s Grapefruit League broadcast and just mentioned, completely offhand, that Aidan Miller is banged up. “I need him to get healthy because he could help us by the end obviously.” That’s it. No warning, no context, just Bryce Harper treating the broadcast like a group chat.
Bryce Harper on Aidan Miller injury:
The Phillies had not said anything publicly about Aidan Miller at that point, so naturally Rob Thomson was asked about it afterward and confirmed that Miller is dealing with a sore back.
Thomson said Aidan Miller showed up to the ballpark one morning recently complaining of soreness and that he does not believe it happened on the field, though Miller did take a hit by pitch during live batting practice last week so that is at least worth monitoring.
The good news is that nothing about this sounds serious. Thomson was pretty relaxed about it and the Phillies are being cautious early in camp, which is exactly what you want to see with a young prospect in February.
There is no need to rush Aidan Miller into anything right now.
The better story here is just Bryce Harper being Bryce Harper. The man is incapable of doing a broadcast appearance without making news.
Most guys sit down for a Spring Training interview and talk about their offseason routine and how focused the team is. Harper shows up and accidentally becomes the beat reporter. Truly one of a kind.
