WATCH: Dayton garbage man finds wanted suspect hiding in a trash can
Perfect video. Absolutely perfect. A garbage man in Huber Heights, Ohio is out there on a cold day just trying to get through his route and mind his business. He goes to empty a trash can and finds a grown man hiding inside it. What follows is the most understandable reaction in the history of recorded human behavior.
He launches himself approximately 40 feet in the opposite direction, gets the cops’ attention, and starts pointing at the bin like his life depends on it. Which to be fair, he did not know that it didn’t.
Some people will call that reaction soft. Those people are wrong. That reaction was heroic. That reaction is exactly what gets the cops looking in the right direction. That is every single person on this planet if they open a trash can and find a man sitting inside it. If you open a trash can and find a grown human being in there and you don’t react like that, I would actually be more concerned about you than the guy in the can.
The zoom in on the fugitive slowly popping up out of the trash is a cinematic achievement. No professional camera, no crew, just somebody’s phone capturing an all-time moment at the exact right second. A-plus work.
Dayton Garbage Man Finds Wanted Suspect Hiding In Trash Can
The questions I need answered are numerous. For the suspect: what was the plan here? You had to know it was garbage day. A garbage man was coming to empty the cans that were all lined up on the curb.
That is not a great hiding spot under any circumstances but especially not when the garbage truck is actively working your street. That decision needs to be broken down.
Hopefully we’ll get a follow up at the police station where he takes us through the thought process.
Regardless, that’s hero behavior out of the garbage man in Huber Heights today. Genuinely.
