Nikola Jokic Lu Dort Nuggets Thunder Fight

Nikola Jokic had words for Lu Dort and things got physical fast

Nikola Jokic is generally one of the most easygoing superstars in the league. He does not usually go looking for trouble.

So when Jokic gets in someone’s face, it is worth paying attention to.

In the fourth quarter of Friday night’s Thunder-Nuggets thriller in Oklahoma City, Lu Dort appeared to intentionally trip Jokic, at minimum throwing a hip check with an outstretched leg right at the three-time MVP.

Nikola Jokic did not let it go.

He turned around and went straight at Dort, who has a well-earned reputation as one of the most physical defenders in the NBA, and the confrontation escalated quickly when Dort’s teammate Jaylin Williams stepped in and got physical with Jokic.

Players and coaches from both sides came rushing to midcourt and it took a while before everyone was separated.

Lu Dort was ejected after appearing to trip Nikola Jokic on this play.

Sure looked like Lu Dort intentionally tripped Nikola Jokic

Nikola Jokic is terrifying…lol

The dust settled with Dort ejected for a Flagrant 2, while Nikola Jokic and Williams both received offsetting technical fouls.Jokic stayed in the game, which matters a great deal given what was happening on the scoreboard.

Ref calling Nikola Jokic “The Joker” is crazy work

The Nuggets were clinging to the game until Jokic tied it with 38 seconds left in regulation to send it to overtime.

He finished with a 23-point, 17-rebound, 14-assist line, though he shot just 9-of-25 from the field. That is a triple-double where the numbers do not fully capture how much of the game ran through him.

Jamal Murray led all scorers with 39 points, but beyond Murray and Nikola Jokic, only two other Nuggets scored more than seven points. That kind of offensive imbalance is hard to sustain.

Oklahoma City took over in overtime and won 127-121. Given that these two teams could very reasonably meet in the playoffs, Friday night felt like a preview of things to come, physical play and all. If Lu Dort is going to be guarding Nikola Jokic in a playoff series, expect more moments like the one in the fourth quarter.

Ah and a quick check in on Jared McCain…thanks Daryl Morey
