Aaron Judge got jammed by a 17-year old high school senior at the World Baseball Classic
Brazil got smoked 15-5 by Team USA on Friday night. It was not close. They gave up 17 walks. They were outclassed from the jump but man, what a roster they put together.
Manny Ramirez’s son Lucas hit two home runs. Dante Bichette Jr., green hair and all, his father’s namesake and Bo Bichette’s little brother, was in the lineup.
Then there was Joseph Contreras. Seventeen years old. Son of former MLB pitcher Jose Contreras. A senior at Blessed Trinity High School in Roswell, Georgia. The youngest player in the entire World Baseball Classic. A kid who was pitching against other high school kids at the Perfect Game HS Showdown just a few weeks ago.
Friday night he had the bases loaded with Aaron Judge in the batter’s box.
Contreras came in during the second inning with Brazil already trailing. Byron Buxton lined out. Brice Turang ripped a double. Contreras walked Bobby Witt Jr. Then walked Bryce Harper. Bases loaded, one out, AL MVP stepping in. Just a completely normal situation for a high school senior.
He fires a 97 mph fastball past Aaron Judge for strike one. Then comes up and in. Breaks the bat. Ground ball to third. Double play. Inning over.

Aaron Judge sets the tone, Team USA begins WBC with 15-5 win over Brazil
Yes, Judge had already gone deep in the first. Yes, Contreras bounced some wild pitches and got pulled the very next inning.
None of that matters.
In that one moment, a 17-year-old kid who should be thinking about prom and signing day made Aaron Judge look completely human. The 47th-ranked prospect in his class. Committed to Vanderbilt. A future professional baseball player who now has a World Baseball Classic story that will follow him forever.
This is exactly what the WBC is for. You do not get Joseph Contreras breaking Aaron Judge’s bat in a spring training game. You do not get it anywhere else. Best on best, countries playing for something real, and a Georgia high school kid carving out his own little piece of history in the middle of a blowout loss.
