Aaron Judge Kyle Schwarber Team USA Scouting Brazil

Aaron Judge was giving Kyle Schwarber a scouting report during a Brazil mound visit and it was incredible

Maybe this is just the baseball junkie in me but I absolutely love this. During Team USA’s 15-5 win over Brazil on Friday night, cameras caught Aaron Judge standing on first base during a Brazil mound visit, leaning over and giving Kyle Schwarber a quick scouting report on the pitcher.

Just two guys who combined for 109 home runs last season, casually chatting about what this Brazilian pitcher has going on the mound while the entire stadium is chanting USA. No big deal.

Aaron Judge and Kyle Schwarber scouting Brazil:

Think about that framing for a second. A Brazil mound visit prompted the guy who hit 56 home runs last year to turn to the guy who hit 53 and explain what this pitcher is all about. That is the World Baseball Classic at its best. That is the kind of content that does not exist in any other context in the sport.

Judge had already set the tone by that point. Barely ten minutes into the game he unloaded on a Bo Takahashi fastball for a two-run homer in front of 30,825 people in Houston who were absolutely losing their minds. He hit it and the building erupted.

Meanwhile the Phillies had two of their own on the field for Team USA. Bryce Harper batting second in the lineup. Kyle Schwarber as the glue guy receiving first-base scouting reports from Aaron Judge. It does not get much better than that for Phillies fans watching the WBC.

Bryce Harper and Schwarber vs Brazil:

  • Bryce Harper: 1-5, RBI, BB, R
  • Kyle Schwarber: 2-4, 2 BB, 2 R

Team USA plays Great Britain on Saturday night at 8 p.m. on FOX. The Judge and Schwarber show continues.
