Alex Bump Flyers NHL Debut

Alex Bump will make his NHL debut tonight in Pittsburgh

The Flyers called up 22-year-old winger Alex Bump from Lehigh Valley on Saturday and he is expected to make his NHL debut tonight against the Penguins in Pittsburgh at 5:30 on NBCSP.

Alex Bump will make his NHL debut tonight in Pittsburgh

Alex Bump has had a nice run with the Phantoms lately. Six goals and two assists over his last six games with 21 shots on net. He missed most of January with an injury but has clearly found his stride coming out of it. On the season he has 26 points in 36 games.

The Western Michigan product won a national championship with the Broncos last season. Bump was a 2022 fifth-round pick who was always known as a high-end scorer at the college and high school levels.

Tonight he gets to find out what that translates to against NHL competition.

The callup is necessitated by the trade deadline moves this week. Nicolas Deslauriers and Bobby Brink are both gone, which opened a roster spot. The timing works out for Bump, who has earned a look with his recent play.

Travis Konecny is also a question mark for tonight. He missed the last two games with an upper-body injury and practiced Friday in a non-contact jersey. His status is uncertain.

The Flyers are fighting for their playoff lives right now, six points back of the Bruins for the final wild card spot, so they need Konecny back sooner rather than later.

But tonight is about Alex Bump. Go get it, kid.
