Miami Ohio vs Ohio postgame fans trash

WATCH: Miami Ohio vs Ohio game gets heated as fans throw trash at the 31-0 RedHawks

The Miami (OH) RedHawks completed one of the more remarkable regular seasons in recent college basketball history, finishing 31-0 with a 110-108 overtime win over rival Ohio in a game that got completely out of hand once the final buzzer sounded.

The game itself was exactly what a rivalry game with a perfect record on the line should be. Ohio had a chance to tie it with seconds left in regulation and missed. Miami Ohio pulled away in overtime and sealed the historic undefeated regular season, the first in program history.

Ohio fans decided to make themselves the story

Frustrated Ohio fans started hurling trash onto the court toward the celebrating RedHawks players. Miami players responded by flipping them off. Scuffles broke out between the teams.

Ohio forward Aidan Hadaway was sent back to the locker room and skipped the handshake line entirely. The whole scene was described by observers as disgusting and the videos circulating on social media back that up completely.

High Tensions after Miami Ohio vs Ohio:

Look, losing a rivalry game in overtime to an unbeaten team on your home court is an awful feeling. Nobody is going to pretend otherwise. But throwing trash at the opposing players celebrating a historic win is not it.

You do not get to do that and have anyone feel sorry for you. Miami’s players responding with middle fingers is understandable when objects are flying at them and the response kind of writes itself.

The game also carried extra weight because of comments Auburn coach Bruce Pearl had made questioning whether Miami actually deserved an NCAA Tournament bid despite the unbeaten record.

That kind of external disrespect has a way of motivating a team and the RedHawks have been playing with a chip on their shoulder because of it.

Their athletic director and head coach both fired back publicly at Pearl and the program clearly felt it needed to prove something against the doubters.

Miami Ohio went 31-0. First in program history. Whatever happens in the tournament, nobody can take that away from them. The postgame circus was Ohio’s problem to own.
