Eagles linked to edge rusher amidst several different trade rumors
Something is cooking with the Philadelphia Eagles and I am not entirely sure what it is yet. The AJ Brown saga drags on. The Jalen Carter trade rumors are floating around. Jaelan Phillips is still technically a free agent.
The latest comes out of Minnesota with a report that the Eagles are among the teams expected to be in the mix for Vikings pass rusher Jonathan Greenard.
According to reports, the Patriots, Commanders, and Eagles are all expected to pursue Greenard, who is apparently available via trade. The cost would reportedly be a Day 2 pick and Greenard wants a new contract as part of any deal.
Eagles linked to Vikings edge rusher
Vikings EDGE Jonathan Greenard is a name to watch this week. A lot of teams have been in on this one. Will likely involve a Day 2 pick if a trade gets done.

One variable: Teams know he wants a new contract as part of the deal. He’s got two years and $38M left on current deal. pic.twitter.com/itRSTJQQMs
A Day 2 pick for a proven pass rusher who has posted eight or more sacks three different times, including 12.5 in 2023 and 12 in 2024, is exactly the kind of move Howie Roseman has built his entire reputation around.
Swoop in, outmaneuver everyone, land the guy nobody saw coming. The Eagles missed out on Maxx Crosby and this feels like Roseman identifying the next best option on the board.
Eagles reportedly making ‘significant progress’ toward re-signing Jaelan Phillips >>
Even if Phillips returns, depth along the edge is still a question.
The need is real. Even if Phillips comes back, the Eagles could realistically be looking for two edge rushers depending on how free agency plays out. Depth at the position has been a question mark for a while and Greenard is not a depth piece. He is a proven starter with a track record of getting to the quarterback.
I will be honest. I do not fully understand the Eagles’ master plan right now. The AJ Brown situation is unresolved. The Jalen Carter listening to offers report was confusing. The Phillips situation is still pending. It is a lot of moving parts happening simultaneously and I am not sure where it all lands.
But I trust Howie Roseman. He has earned that trust. And if this Greenard report has any legs, the Eagles are about to make a move that makes all of this start to make sense.
Stay tuned.
