WATCH: Logan Allen post-anthem stand off against Logan Allen at the World Baseball Classic
Sunday night at the World Baseball Classic, Logan Allen and Logan Allen had a post-anthem standoff. Same name. Same position. Same state. Same former team. Different countries. Let that sink in for a second.
Both left-handed pitchers. Both from Florida. Both former Cleveland Guardians. Panama’s Logan Allen still pitches for Cleveland and plays for Panama because his mother is Panamanian.
Canada’s version was a reliever for the Guardians from 2019 to 2022, has been out of the majors since 2024, and plays for Canada because his father is Canadian.
The exact same name. The exact same position. The exact same state. The exact same organization. Two completely different guys standing 60 feet apart at an international baseball tournament staring each other down.
Panama vs Canada: Logan Allen.
Logan Allen won the standoff. He also lost. Both statements are completely accurate.
The post-anthem standoff itself is one of those quirky baseball traditions. The sport has had them forever. What has never happened before is a player staring down another player that has the same exact name while representing two different countries at the biggest international baseball tournament in the world.
That is what the WBC does. It creates things that cannot exist anywhere else.
