WATCH: Joel Embiid finally caught up with James Harden after Sixers-Cavs game last night
Back in July, Joel Embiid revealed something that nobody knew. James Harden had stopped speaking to him entirely after his time in Philadelphia ended.
Joel Embiid on James Harden not speaking to him:
“No one knows this, but even James is not talking to me,” Embiid told ESPN. “Because if you ask James, he probably believes I had something to do with him not being here. And I’m just like, ‘I won the scoring title. You won the assists title. We had a pick-and-roll that was unstoppable.’ It hurts when you feel like you haven’t done anything wrong. When you think you have a relationship like that with somebody… you lose a lot.”
Shorthanded Sixers destroyed in Cleveland, Ghost of Jared McCain haunts the team on the scoreboard
Monday night in Cleveland, after the Sixers got blown out by 25, Embiid found Harden on the court and walked straight up to him.
“I know you mad at me but Ima say what’s up. I know, I know, just don’t be mad at me for it.”
Joel Embiid and James Harden Postgame:
Damn.
That is a real moment. Joel Embiid understood exactly why his former teammate and friend was upset, knowing there was nothing he personally did wrong, and still being the one to extend the olive branch anyway.
Here is where I land on this. I clowned James Harden a lot when the whole situation was playing out. He looked like a guy throwing a tantrum, demanding a trade, calling Daryl Morey a liar publicly, burning the whole relationship down on his way out the door. It was easy to take shots.
Now we know that James Harden was right about everything. Morey lied to him. Morey has lied to a lot of people. The Sixers front office has consistently prioritized the luxury tax line and their own flexibility over the players who built this thing.
Joel Embiid clearly understands why Harden was furious and clearly feels the weight of being stuck in the middle of it through no fault of his own.
Daryl Morey is the worst. All my homies hate Daryl Morey!!
