Buffalo Wild Wings set to launch an espresso martini with Muscle Milk and buffalo dry rub and I have questions
First things first. I love Buffalo Wild Wings. I have spent more time and money than I care to admit at the B Dubs in Glen Mills, shoutout DELCO, and I write this from a place of genuine affection for the establishment. This comes from love.
In celebration of National Espresso Martini Day, which is apparently a real thing that exists on March 15th, Buffalo Wild Wings has released their own signature espresso martini made with Muscle Milk protein powder and buffalo dry rub.
I had to read that sentence twice when I wrote it.
Buffalo Wild Wings – Espresso Martini
Buffalo Wild Wings? National Espresso Martini Day? Really…?
Let me address National Espresso Martini Day first because I have questions about that too. Chilled Magazine declared March 15 as the first annual Espresso Martini Day specifically to give people a caffeine boost the day after Daylight Savings Time.
They partnered with Rémy Martin and a bunch of bartenders to promote it and apparently enough bars bought in to make it a thing. That is beyond stupid but congratulations to Chilled Magazine for pulling it off. Truly.
On espresso martinis generally….
The worst thing that ever happened to the spirits industry is allowing the espresso martini to be viewed as anything other than a dessert drink. You cannot drink a lot of them.
If we are being honest with each other, they exist for people who want the idea of a martini without committing to an actual martini, so they cover for it with espresso. I say this as someone who enjoys one after a nice meal or when you need to rally late in the evening.
Made correctly, it is the perfect vehicle for a second wind. It has its place.
A real dirty martini though is a different conversation entirely.
Zero fluff. Brine, booze, and instant recalibration. You cannot crack one open like a gas station energy drink and expect it to feel right. You need the moment. You need the freshness. That little rush that comes from drinking one at a completely irresponsible hour.
A good dirty martini puts the soul back in your body. It is also the single greatest hangover demolition tool known to man, a fact I confirmed personally at six in the morning in an airport with Ryan Conway, Editor at Large here at The Liberty Line, on the way to Dallas with Phans of Philly.
That is a long story. I wrote the whole thing up. Things spiraled. The post went viral for the right reasons and the wrong ones. ESP never answered the call. We never found him.
All of which brings us back to Buffalo Wild Wings…
Espresso, Muscle Milk protein powder, and buffalo dry rub in one glass.
Look, it is a gimmick. Nobody is ordering this because they think it tastes incredible. They are ordering it because it is so aggressively absurd that they need to document it for social media.
That is a completely legitimate reason to order a drink and I respect the business decision.
I genuinely cannot imagine what espresso, protein powder, and buffalo dry rub taste like together but I am not in a position to judge anyone. Maybe it is the perfect combination of caffeine, spice, and alcohol that sets you right for the rest of the evening.
I will be having one on March 15th at the Buffalo Wild Wings located on the sacred grounds of DELCO in Glen Mills. Stay tuned.
