Paul Bissonnette is rage-baiting Flyers fans and unfortunately, they are eating it up

Let me say this upfront. Paul Bissonnette is a Barstool employee. He and everyone at that company will stop at nothing to trend on the internet. This is the job.

I am not sitting here pretending to take a well-known blockhead like Paul Bissonnette seriously or acting like his opinion on the Philadelphia Flyers carries any real weight. I just want that on the record before we get into it.

Uhhh… cool? I mean seriously, it can’t be any more obvious of a troll job here from Paul Bissonnette, right? On top of that, it’s a pretty fucking stupid tweet to begin with.

What exactly is the bar being set here? Are we supposed to be more understanding to the current state of the Flyers because the village idiots in charge, Keith Jones, Danny Briere, and (checks notes) Comcast Spectacor are all happy-go-lucky up in their press box? I really don’t even know what that means.

At least if you’re going to attempt to troll someone, make it good. That’s dog shit.

The idea that Keith Jones and Danny Brière wanting to be Flyers is something worth celebrating is one of the lowest bars ever cleared in professional sports management. That is the baseline requirement for being employed.

Stating the blatantly obvious, the reason Flyers fans are angry has nothing to do with whether or not the front office is smiling in the press box.

This franchise has not won a Stanley Cup since 1975. Most of the people reading this were not alive for it. The Flyers have been in rebuild mode for roughly 15 years and have nothing to show for it. Not one legitimate playoff run. Not one season where this fanbase felt like the organization was actually building toward something real.

Just an endless cycle of half-measures, aging veterans on short-term contracts, and draft picks who have not panned out.

Flyers fans are not miserable to be miserable.

They are miserable because the organization itself has beaten them into submission and they are force fed a bad product and fifty years without a championship. More recently, they have been enduring a humiliation ritual of fifteen years without any type of concrete direction to make this team better.

The draft history and hiring process for anyone involved in this dumpster fire is nearly impossible to defend. The scouts need to be re-evaluated. The ownership structure needs Jeffrey Lurie and John Middleton to look at what is happening on the ice the same way they look at what is happening on the field and on the court.

The most honest thing you can say about the current state of the Flyers is that it never feels like they are fully committed to anything.

They are not tanking. They are not competing. They are somewhere in the middle, signing players in their thirties and calling it progress. That is what drives the fanbase insane more than anything else.

It literally has nothing to do with losing. It’s the lack of conviction. At the very least, this organization should fucking commit to an honest rebuild with a competent coaching staff and have it clearly communicated that to fans.

I personally didn’t like The Process but at least we know what the Sixers were trying to accomplish. It gave fans a reason to believe that better days were ahead. Now, we know it didn’t work but you get my point. There was some sense of direction where everyone was moving forward together.

What do the Flyers fans get instead of that? They get press box smiles and dumb fuck Paul Bissonnette first calling them “morons” and now telling them to be patient, all in the name of defending his guy Rick Tocchett, who has been nothing short of a disaster this year in South Philly.

That can’t be happening, obviously.

Flyers fans are allowed to be pissed off. They are allowed to be impatient. Anyone who has not been around for any of this showing up to call them morons for being fed up can kindly fuck off. Paul Bissonnette has and always will be a complete idiot.

You’d be best to just ignore him entirely moving forward… unless he agrees to have our guy Derek on his podcast to actually learn a thing or two about the Flyers.
