Eagles bring Dallas Goedert back on 1-year deal

Eagles fans can exhale a little bit, because Dallas Goedert is reportedly coming back to Philadelphia.

According to a new report from multiple sources, the Eagles and Goedert have agreed to a one-year deal worth $10 million, with the opportunity to earn up to $11 million with incentives. The timing of the agreement matters almost as much as the contract itself.

Philadelphia had been working with Goedert throughout free agency to figure out a path forward. In the meantime, the team pushed back the void date on his contract twice to keep negotiations alive. Had the two sides failed to reach a deal before the latest deadline, the Eagles would have been staring down a $20.5 million dead cap hit.

Instead, they managed to bring back one of the most consistent players in their offense while also avoiding a major financial headache.

For a player who has spent his entire career in Philadelphia, the move makes a lot of sense.

The Eagles drafted Goedert in the second round back in 2018, and he has quietly developed into one of the more reliable tight ends in the league. In eight seasons with the franchise, Goedert has never dipped below 33 catches, 334 yards, and two touchdowns in a season.

And he’s coming off arguably the best year of his career.

Goedert posted personal bests with 60 receptions and 11 touchdowns in 2025, production that couldn’t have come at a better time as he approached what would have been his first opportunity to test the free agent market.

Instead, the Eagles keep a key piece of their offense in place for at least one more season.

Eagles flexibility increases amid AJ Brown speculation

While the Goedert deal is a positive development on its own, it also plays into the bigger storyline surrounding the Eagles this offseason.

By getting a contract done before the void date, Philadelphia avoided that $20.5 million dead cap hit and now has greater financial flexibility moving forward. That flexibility has already led to speculation about what the Eagles might do next.

And yes, that inevitably brings the conversation back to AJ Brown.

Brown has been at the center of offseason trade chatter after a somewhat strange 2025 season in which his role and relationship with the offense seemed to fluctuate at times. But despite the rumors flying around NFL media circles, actually moving Brown is far from simple.

Trading him before June 1 would trigger a significant cap hit, which is likely why the Eagles have reportedly placed such a high asking price on the star receiver.

Even with the Goedert deal now complete, there haven’t been any new developments regarding Brown’s future. For now, the situation remains exactly where it’s been for weeks: speculation outside the building, patience inside it.

And if we’re being honest, that’s pretty typical for how the Eagles operate under Howie Roseman.

Philadelphia tends to keep its options open while quietly managing the cap behind the scenes. Bringing Goedert back on a short-term deal fits perfectly within that approach. The Eagles keep a trusted offensive weapon in the building, avoid a massive dead cap charge, and maintain flexibility for whatever move might come next.

Whether that next move involves AJ Brown or not is still very much an open question.

But one thing is certain.

The Eagles just made sure one of the most important pieces of their offense will still be in midnight green this season.
