Darius Slay will only play for the Eagles next season, otherwise he’s retiring
Darius Slay has only been away from Philadelphia for about a year, and it already sounds like he wants to come back.
In a recent clip circulating on social media, Slay made his intentions for next season crystal clear: he only wants to play for the Philadelphia Eagles. In fact, he said they’re the only team allowed to call him.
Darius Slay: No team can call me but the Eagles
A lot of Eagles fans like to take their shots at Slay, mostly because he had a podcast and never shied away from saying exactly what was on his mind during his time in Philly. But regardless of how people felt about that, Slay essentially rescued the Eagles’ secondary when he arrived in 2020. It’s easy to forget just how bad the cornerback room was before he got here.
Michael Jacquet, Jalen Mills, Craig James, Nickell Robey-Coleman… just to name a few. Those were some dark times.
Darius Slay went on to appear in two Super Bowls with the Eagles, winning his second in 2024. After that, he left for Pittsburgh, where his age started to catch up with him. He played in just 10 games with the Steelers, allowing a 70% completion percentage when targeted along with three touchdowns. He’s 35 years old now, and it’s fair to say his best football is behind him.
With the Eagles clearly leaning into a youth movement on defense, it’s hard to envision a scenario where Slay gets that call. Unless there’s a long-term injury to one of the starters, it just doesn’t seem likely. Of course, if something like that happens, all bets are off.
