Miguel Rojas Johan Rojas PEDS The Athletic

The Athletic reports World Series hero Miguel Rojas was suspended instead of Johan Rojas

Miguel Rojas had a rough Monday morning and he did not even do anything wrong.

Evan Drellich of The Athletic broke the news that a Phillies outfielder named Rojas had been suspended 80 games by MLB after testing positive for Boldenone, a performance-enhancing drug.

The problem is Drellich initially posted on X that it was Miguel Rojas, the Dodgers infielder, who had been suspended. He deleted the post and clarified within a few minutes that it was Johan Rojas of the Phillies. The internet did not let it go that quickly.

Johan Rojas Has Been Suspended 80 Games and the Phillies Can Finally Move On

The timing of the mixup could not have been worse for Drellich.

Miguel Rojas is one of the most beloved role players in baseball right now after hitting a game-tying home run off Jeff Hoffman batting ninth with the Dodgers facing elimination in the ninth inning of Game 7 of the 2025 World Series against the Blue Jays.

Los Angeles won in extra innings 5-4 and captured their second straight World Series. Migeul Rojas became a household name overnight. Getting his name attached to an 80-game PED suspension, even briefly, is the kind of mistake that sticks.

Johan Rojas is a completely different situation.

First and foremost, he sucks. Johan Rojas is 25 and slashed .224/.280/.289 in 71 games with the big league club last season. He hit .279 in Triple-A. He was never a major league hitter. He took PEDs and that did not fix it either.

Because the suspension is 80 games, Rojas will be ineligible for the postseason entirely in 2026. He did not make the Phillies’ NLDS roster last October either, so that part at least is not a new development.

Just a rough mistake for Evan Drellich, who all things considered, is a credible reporter who made a sloppy mistake on a breaking news story. As we all know, “History Will Be Retweeted” so Evan Drellich got roasted for it online as a result.
