Eagles rumors still have no substance as Adam Schefter shuts down AJ Brown trade talk

Eagles fans have been force-fed AJ Brown trade rumors all offseason, and yet here we are in late March with nothing actually happening. No deal. No movement. Just the same recycled nonsense getting dressed up as “insider buzz.”

And now we finally have someone credible stepping in to cool things down.

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Adam Schefter made it clear that while Brown’s name has been discussed, there is no handshake agreement in place between Philadelphia and New England. None.

That alone should tell you everything you need to know about where things actually stand.

Eagles Still Holding All the Cards

The biggest takeaway here is simple. The Eagles are not locked into anything.

Schefter flat out said the team isn’t in a rush to do anything, and if a move were to happen, it would more likely come after June 1. That’s been the angle people keep latching onto, but there’s a big difference between “financially makes sense later” and “deal already done.”

Right now, it’s the former. Not the latter.

And that matters, because it means Howie Roseman still has full control of the situation. If another team comes in with a better offer, the Eagles can pivot. If they decide they don’t like the market, they can shut it down entirely.

Nothing is forcing their hand.

Patriots Fit Is Logical… Not Guaranteed

Schefter did acknowledge what everyone already knows. The Patriots are a logical landing spot. They need a receiver, and Brown would instantly become their WR1.

But even that comes with a giant asterisk.

New England still has months to figure out its own situation. They could re-sign a guy like Stefon Diggs. They could draft a receiver. They could go in a completely different direction.

Schefter even pointed that out, basically saying if the Patriots solve their receiver problem before June 1, then the entire Brown conversation dies right there.

That’s not how you talk about a deal that’s already done.

Eagles Rumors vs. Reality

There has been this growing narrative that the Eagles and Patriots have some kind of under-the-table agreement waiting to be finalized after June 1.

Schefter shut that down.

According to him, there is no handshake deal. And more importantly, it wouldn’t even make sense for either side to operate that way.

Why would the Eagles lock themselves into one team when a better offer could come along?

Why would the Patriots commit to a massive move when their roster could look completely different after the draft?

That’s not how competent organizations operate.

Eagles Still Have Multiple Paths Forward

With the draft still ahead and June 1 months away, the Eagles have options.

They can:

  • Keep AJ Brown and put this entire conversation to bed
  • Revisit trade talks later if the right offer comes in
  • Or even surprise everyone and make a move earlier if they feel it’s worth the financial hit

The point is, nothing has been decided.

And honestly, if the Eagles wanted to shut all of this up tomorrow, they could. We’ve seen teams do it before. Just come out and say the guy isn’t available.

Until then, though, this is what we’re stuck with. Rumors without substance.

The Eagles haven’t agreed to trade AJ Brown. There’s no secret deal with New England. And there’s no guarantee anything happens at all.

What we have is speculation built around timing and cap mechanics, not actual movement.

So until something real happens, this is just noise.
