According to reports, the Philadelphia 76ers plan to honor Jared McCain with a tribute video tonight
The Philadelphia 76ers are honoring Jared McCain with a tribute tonight in South Philly.
Yup. You read that correctly. The Sixers have decided to be the least self-aware basketball organization in the entire NBA and honor Jared McCain, the guy that Daryl Morey “sold high” on at the deadline by trading him to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the best team in basketball, where he’s getting legitimate playing time and averaging 12.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 19 games.
I had to verify this wasn’t NBACentel multiple times before accepting it as reality.
It is real. The Sixers are giving a tribute to a guy they traded two months ago who is now thriving on a championship contender while Philadelphia limps to the finish line with Cameron Payne running the point.
The Sixers will have a tribute ready for Jared McCain
Here’s where the Sixers stand with 11 games left in the regular season >>
For context, Jared McCain averaged 10.0 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 60 games as a Sixer. Perfectly solid numbers from a guy the entire fanbase was excited about.
Daryl Morey looked at that player and decided the right move was to ship him to OKC at the trade deadline. The move that packaged to the fanbase as “selling high” while doing absolutely nothing to help the Sixers make a playoff push.
The same playoff push, mind you, that has required Cameron Payne, Trendon Watford, and MarJon Beauchamp to carry the load for weeks.
Tonight, instead of quietly acknowledging that the trade happened and moving on, the Sixers are rolling out a tribute video for the player they gave away. A tribute for a guy who played a total of 60 games for the Sixers before he was embarrassingly shipped out of the building so the organization could duck the tax.
Jared McCain meeting with the media ahead of tonight’s game
A tribute for Jared McCain who is undoubtedly on a better team and thriving. I mean seriously, how bad can it get? This franchise never stops finding new ways to make things awkward and tonight they have truly outdone themselves.

I hate it here; the whole front office needs to go and owner.
