John Kruk Adolis Garcia Phillies Opening Day

John Kruk said he wants to see Tyler O’Neill and Adolis Garcia oiled up and flexing after a good workout

If you had any doubt that baseball was back, look no further than the Philadelphia Phillies broadcast on Opening Day.

Bottom of the sixth inning. JT Realmuto is about to strike out for the third time. The Phillies are up 5-0. Cristopher Sanchez has already struck out ten Rangers. Kyle Backhus hadn’t even entered the game to cough up three runs yet.

Life was good. The mind wanders in moments like that and John Kruk’s wandered somewhere very specific. Kruk, on live television, on Opening Day, told Tom McCarthy that he wanted to see Tyler O’Neill and Adolis Garcia oiled up and flexing after a good workout.

That is where we are. Game 1 of 162 and we are already knee deep in the mind of John Kruk. Literally zero time given to warm ourselves up to it and ease it. We went straight into oiled up baseball players on the very first day of the season.

Cristopher Sanchez shoves, Alec Bohm goes yard, and the Phillies take Opening Day 5-3 over Rangers >>

Not really my cup of tea either but I fully respect the commitment. John Kruk has never once pretended to be something he is not and he is not starting now.

Buckle up. It is going to be a long and beautiful season.
