Standings Update: The Flyers are now just three points of a Wild Card spot >>
Martone just finished his freshman year at Michigan State with 50 points in 35 games. Twenty-five goals and 25 assists as a 19-year-old freshman in college hockey. That is a genuinely exceptional debut season and exactly what the Flyers were hoping to see from the player they took sixth overall in last summer’s draft.

The timing could not be better for Porter Martone and the Flyers
The Flyers are three points out of a wild card spot with ten games left and are playing the best hockey of their season. Adding a generational young talent to the mix right now is either a bonus or a meaningful contributor depending on how quickly Porter Martone adjusts to the professional game.
Either way the organization gets to start his development at the NHL level immediately rather than waiting another year. The present is a legitimate playoff push. The future just showed up to help.
