Eagles GM Howie Roseman addresses AJ Brown rumors without really addressing them
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman finally spoke on the nonstop AJ Brown trade chatter at the NFL owners meetings on Sunday, and if you were hoping for some big dramatic answer that would put this story to bed, you didn’t get it.
What you got instead was the most Howie Roseman answer possible. Tight, polished, calculated, and just vague enough to keep everyone talking.
“I understand that there’s interest in the AJ Brown story,” Roseman said. “Unfortunately, I don’t have a home under a rock. But my answer to any question on AJ Brown is that AJ Brown is a member of the Eagles.”
That was the line. And just to make sure nobody missed it, he doubled down.
“From my perspective, anything you ask me about AJ Brown, I’m going to go right back to that answer,” Roseman said. “But I understand the interest. I put on TV and I see that there’s interest. But my answer is AJ Brown is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.”
That’s true. It is also not the question anybody actually cares about.
Eagles fans still want an answer about 2026
Nobody is confused about whether AJ Brown is currently under contract. The real question is whether he’s still going to be here when Week 1 rolls around. That’s what this has always been about.
And Roseman, to his credit, knows exactly what people are asking. He just wasn’t about to give them anything beyond the bare minimum.
Some people will hear those comments and take them as reassurance that Brown isn’t going anywhere. Others will look at the wording and notice Roseman never once said Brown won’t be traded. He never slammed the door on anything. He just repeated that Brown is on the roster right now.
That’s why this story isn’t dying anytime soon.
AJ Brown is still one of the best receivers in football, and even after another 1,000-yard season, the frustration from last year clearly gave this whole thing legs. Once rumors like this get rolling in the offseason, especially with cap implications changing after June 1, they tend to hang around whether anybody likes it or not.
Eagles roster-building won’t stop for one player
Roseman was also asked whether uncertainty around Brown makes it harder to build out the roster, and he answered that one the way you’d expect a GM to answer it.
“Roster construction from a macro perspective is going to be based on a vision,” Roseman said. “That vision doesn’t change by one particular player.”
That’s a fair answer. It also tells you how the Eagles operate.
They are not going to publicly act like the entire franchise revolves around one player, even a player as important as AJ Brown. That has never really been Roseman’s style. The Eagles build in layers, they keep contingency plans in place, and they rarely show their full hand in public.
So no, he wasn’t about to stand there and give some emotional declaration about how Brown is untouchable. That’s not how he does business.
The Elijah Moore connection got shut down too
Roseman also addressed the idea that signing Elijah Moore had something to do with Brown, since the two are obviously close from their Ole Miss days.
That theory got shot down fast.
“Everything that we’re doing is based on the particulars of the players,” Roseman said. “Nothing we’re doing is to do favors … We’re [adding] players based on what they can bring to the team.”
Again, very standard Howie stuff there. The Eagles are not handing out roster spots as favors, and Roseman clearly wanted to make that point before people turned the Moore signing into some deeper sign about Brown’s future.
Could Moore help the room either way? Sure. But Roseman made it clear the move was about Moore as a player, not about managing AJ Brown.
Eagles rumors aren’t going anywhere yet
That’s really the biggest takeaway here. Roseman didn’t confirm anything beyond the present tense. He didn’t deny the noise in some emphatic way either. He acknowledged the story, admitted he sees the same coverage everybody else sees, and then gave the most controlled answer possible.
Which, honestly, is probably the smart move.
But from the outside, it also means the speculation lives on. Until the Eagles get deeper into the offseason and Brown is still firmly in place, people are going to keep asking. Roseman knows that. Fans know that. Everybody knows that.
For now, the only official answer is the one Roseman kept repeating.
AJ Brown is a member of the Eagles.
And until that changes, or until Roseman decides to say something stronger, that’s all anyone’s getting.
