Phillies fans are already booing the team at The Bank after disappointing opening series vs Rangers
The Phillies lost the series finale to the Rangers 8-3 on Sunday and got booed at Citizens Bank Park in the process. The offense was bad. The top of the lineup was a ghost all weekend. Luzardo got hit around. It looked rough.
It is three games into a 162-game season. Relax.
I cannot do the fake outrage over an opening weekend series loss and I will not pretend to. The unofficial official start of baseball season is June 1st.
The Phillies will be fine. Zero concerns. Totally fine. That said, the accountability portion of this recap is real so let’s get into it.
Shocker: The Phillies Lineup Looked Like The Phillies Lineup
The top three hitters in the Phillies lineup combined to go 5-for-37 in the series. Turner hit .154. Schwarber hit .154. Harper hit .091.
Harp went 0-for-2 with two walks and a strikeout on Sunday and got booed after striking out with the bases loaded and nobody out in the sixth inning. That is the situation.
The Phillies were no-hit through five innings Sunday.
They had the bases loaded with no outs in the sixth and scored twice. The Rangers walked the first two batters in the seventh and the Phillies scored zero.
Texas walked two batters with one out in the eighth and the Phillies scored once. The opportunities were there and they could not cash them.
Garcia swung at six of the eleven pitches he saw out of the zone on Sunday. The Phillies as a team chased at a 31.3 percent rate which is barely different from last year’s 30.3 percent.
So yeah, same issues, new season.
Jesus Luzardo roughed up
Jesus Luzardo allowed six runs in six innings in his first start of the year. Brandon Nimmo hit a two-run homer in the third. Andrew McCutchen hit a three-run homer in the fourth. Garcia also lost a ball in the sun that allowed a run to score.
Not the debut Luzardo needed after a strong Spring and a brand new contract.
I’m pretty sure Adolis Garcia hates me
The Leadoff Man Trea Turner…
Trea Turner grounded into two double plays on Sunday, just the third time in his career he has done that and the first since 2021. He batted .133 in the Spring. Turner told MLB.com he was happy about it because his best Springs have historically preceded his worst regular seasons and vice versa.
He batted .179 in spring 2025 and won the NL batting title at .304. He batted .170 in spring 2021 and won his first batting title at .328. He batted .189 in 2020 and hit .335.
Everything will be A-OK
Three games into the regular season with a bad Spring behind him is not the moment to panic on Trea Turner… or anyone else for that matter.
The Phillies are back at it tonight in South Philly, with the Washington Nationals coming to town for a three-game set. 159 games left.

Shocked about Lizardo, no. Shocked no one listened to me, yes. The guy is a bum!
