VJ Edgecombe

WIP continues to chase false narratives, but the Sixers actually have some good news on VJ Edgecombe

While 94.1 WIP spent the entire day recycling Jalen Hurts hit pieces and running polls about whether Eagles fans owe Kevin Patullo an apology, the Sixers quietly had one of their better weeks of the season.

That is the Philadelphia sports media landscape in 2026. We are not doing that here. VJ Edgecombe just won the NBA Rookie of the Month award for March and it was not close.

Rookie of the Month in the East:

Across 13 games VJ Edgecombe averaged 18.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. He did most of that without Joel Embiid, without Paul George, and without Tyrese Maxey for extended stretches. The Sixers essentially ran a hospital unit for most of the month and still went 8-8.

That does not happen without someone stepping up and filling the void. That someone was a 20-year-old rookie who was not supposed to be doing any of this yet.

VJ Edgecombe is a star in the making…

What makes the VJ Edgecombe story genuinely exciting is not just the numbers.

It is the growth that happened in real time. When Maxey went down Edgecombe did not just fill minutes. He leveled up. He started creating his own shot, running the offense, making reads for teammates, and adjusting his game on a nightly basis against NBA defenses.

That kind of acceleration usually shows up in year two or year three. He is doing it as a rookie in the middle of a playoff race with the stakes as high as they get.

The Sixers are now healthy. Embiid is back. George is back. Maxey is back. Oubre is back. And the guy who carried this team through February and March when none of them were available is still on the floor making everyone around him better.

Think about what that rotation looks like in a seven-game playoff series where no opposing coach has ever had to gameplan for this full lineup together.

This is what Philadelphia should be talking about right now. Not unnamed source reports about the quarterback and not polls about a fired offensive coordinator.

The Sixers are right there. VJ Edgecombe is the real deal. Pay attention to what is actually happening.
