Jo Adell 3 Home Run Robbery

Jo Adell robbed three home runs in the same game on Saturday and it has to be seen to be believed

Jo Adell went out to right field at Angel Stadium on Saturday afternoon and put on the single greatest defensive performance any outfielder has had this season. Three home run robberies. One game. A 1-0 Angels win over the Mariners where every single run mattered and Adell personally prevented three of them from ever happening.

The first one came in the first inning against Cal Raleigh, last year’s home run leader. Raleigh crushed one to deep right that had solo shot written all over it. Adell went up and took it away at the wall. Game stays scoreless.

Jo Adell Robbery No. 1

He ran it back in the eighth inning against Josh Naylor. Almost identical play. Leaping catch at the wall. Naylor’s homer evaporates. Still 1-0.

Jo Adell Robbery No. 2

Then the ninth inning happened and Adell decided the first two were just warmups. The third catch looked like the climax of a baseball movie that nobody would believe was realistic if they saw it in a theater. It was not realistic. It happened anyway.

Jo Adell Robbery No. 3

Three home run robberies in a game decided by one run. Every single one of them was the difference between winning and losing. If Jo Adell makes one of those plays it is a highlight for the week. If he makes two it is a SportsCenter lead. Three in the same 1-0 game is something that does not have a proper category yet.
