Gerald McCoy defends Jalen Hurts as the hit piece machine keeps rolling

Over the past week, we’ve been force-fed two Jalen Hurts hit pieces, both trying to pin the Eagles’ offensive issues on the quarterback. Conveniently, neither story put a name behind any of the accusations. Both relied on anonymous sources who were apparently too scared to attach themselves to a takedown of a guy who won Super Bowl MVP two years ago.

Thankfully, there are still a few people out there willing to apply some basic common sense. Former Buccaneers star Gerald McCoy did exactly that while speaking with Skip Bayless, telling viewers to take all of this with a grain of salt.

The conversation around all of this Jalen Hurts stuff is barely worth entertaining. Most of the people pushing it are doing it for attention. There’s been plenty of speculation that the Eagles are leaking this because it’s the only way to get a response out of Hurts, and honestly, that doesn’t even pass the smell test. An organization as well run as the Eagles does not play games like that in the court of public opinion.

It also falls apart the second you think it through. If the Eagles were truly fed up with Hurts, why would they go out of their way to damage his reputation in public? All that does is hurt his value. And if the idea is that they’d eventually want to move him, wouldn’t they be trying to preserve that value and bring back a massive haul in return? None of it adds up.

More than anything, the whole thing reads like jealousy. And if there are people bothered by the fact that Jalen Hurts got a big share of the credit for winning a Super Bowl and helped bring them a ring in the process, then maybe Philadelphia is not the place for them. If winning at that level and stacking double-digit win seasons still is not enough because one guy gets a little more shine than everyone else, that is a you problem. Go be miserable somewhere else. Go join the Cleveland Browns.

At the end of the day, it is April. The NFL Draft has not even happened yet. Reporters are bored, and most of them are not interested in real football analysis anyway, so they hit the Jalen Hurts button because they know it will get a reaction and generate clicks.

None of this means anything right now. The only thing that matters is what happens this coming season.
