Bryce Harper delivers, Phillies comeback to beat the Giants 6-4 after a rough start from Andrew Painter
Bryce Harper came into Monday night hitting .139 and left Oracle Park with three hits, three RBI, and a four-run seventh inning for the Phillies that the Giants never saw coming.
The Phillies won 6-4 on Monday night to take the series opener in San Francisco and finally, Bryce Harper was right in the middle of it while Giants fans spent the majority of the night booing him.
Obviously, Bryce Harper gets booed wherever he goes. Heavy is the head, ya know? This year specifically though, he’s been taking heat since the World Baseball Classic.
The majority of it was just bullshit and recency bias but when the Phillies started the season off slower than molasses, more heat came his way the first nine games of this season.
While it was such a small sample size, Harp started this year “hitting” .139 and looking like a completely different person than the one who has been one of the best players in baseball for the last decade.
Thankfully, even if it was only one night, Harp flipped the script at Oracle Park and delivered when the Phillies needed him most with a a three-hit, three-RBI performance to get the win.

Andrew Painter struggled in his second start. Four runs over four innings, inconsistent command, falling behind in counts repeatedly. That’s showbiz, baby. It’s going to happen but last night the offense and the bullpen bailed him out.
The Phillies were down 4-0 through four innings and needed to show some life at the dish. Realmuto and Crawford got on in the fifth and Turner drove in the first run on a groundout to bring Harper up.
First pitch. Low-and-in slider. Harper scorched it off the brick wall in right field at 112.5 mph, hardest ball he has hit all season.
Justin Crawford may be ELITE…
Suddenly it was 4-2 and the Phillies had a pulse.
Then the seventh. Crawford and Turner hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Harper walks slowly to the plate. The San Francisco crowd boos when his name gets announced. Borucki goes inside with a 95 mph sinker. Goes inside again. Harper gets the barrel on it and rips a two-run single through the right side to tie the game.
The Giants were cooked at that point and everyone in the ballpark knew it.
Bohm followed with a base hit down the first base line on a perfect inside-out swing to put the Phillies ahead. Game-winning knock. Harper scored later on a sacrifice fly to cap a four-run seventh that swung everything.

Four-run seventh and just like that, a comeback win for The Fightins.
Bryce Harper going 3-4 with the boos raining down on him the whole night at a park where he came in hitting .215 for his career. The Phillies are 6-4. Series opener in San Francisco is theirs.
