WATCH: Nick Foles thinks AJ Brown will be traded
Nick Foles is not some random guy throwing shit at the wall for clicks. When he says he thinks AJ Brown wants to be traded, people in Philly are going to listen.
That is exactly why these comments hit a little different.
Foles said he believes Brown wants out and that New England makes the most sense if something actually happens. He tied a lot of that frustration back to how ugly things got with the offense last year, and he made it pretty clear he thinks the Eagles may not want to drag that same drama into a season with a first-year coordinator.
Nick Foles just added fuel to the AJ Brown fire
The biggest thing here is not even the Patriots angle. It is the fact that Nick Foles sounds like someone who believes this is very real, not just another round of empty offseason gossip.
He is not screaming that a trade is guaranteed, but he is clearly leaning toward something happening before the season starts. That alone is enough to make people stop and look at this a little harder.
And once New England gets brought up again, it is impossible not to roll your eyes. Eagles fans have been hearing that song for months now. Still, when Nick Foles is the one saying it, the noise gets louder whether people like it or not.
Nick Foles may be right, but it still feels like smoke season
At the same time, this is still the part of the NFL calendar where everybody suddenly has a source, a theory, or a cap spreadsheet. So while Nick Foles absolutely moved the conversation, it does not mean AJ Brown is halfway out the door.
It just means the trade talk is not dying anytime soon.
That is where the Eagles are right now. One franchise legend says Brown wants out, Patriots rumors refuse to go away, and fans are stuck waiting to see whether this is real smoke or the same tired fire drill all over again.
