IcyVert PickensBurgh

This IcyVert vs. Pickensburgh Twitter beef feels like an elaborate bit that everyone fell for

I learned who IcyVert and PickensBurgh were this morning. Not exactly the ideal way to start the day, but as a terminally online piece of shit, this is apparently the hand I’ve been dealt.

After seeing all the Twitter rumblings about the two of them, I couldn’t help but dig into the whole thing. Basically, IcyVert is a Philly sports Twitter guy with more than 100K followers. PickensBurgh is pretty much the Pittsburgh version. Apparently they’ve had beef for a while, and like most internet beef, it seems to come down to politics. PickensBurgh is conservative, IcyVert is liberal.

Both of them happened to be at the Flyers-Penguins game last night, and with the opportunity sitting right in front of him, PickensBurgh decided to “press” IcyVert. Naturally, he recorded it and posted it for his followers.

From what’s floating around Twitter, I guess Icy has been pretty vocal about kids becoming trans, or something along those lines. That was apparently enough for conservative PickensBurgh to feel like he needed to confront him in person. He also asked Icy why he backed out of their boxing match, and Icy said it was because he has a broken back. That was pretty much the entire exchange.

The video by itself is already embarrassing for obvious reasons. It’s high school nanny boo boo shit. But the aftermath is what really sent this thing into another lane, and now I’m pretty convinced the whole thing is a bit. It’s almost too perfectly stupid to be real.

Afterward, PickensBurgh started posting videos trying to explain why his voice sounded like it was shaking. He even hosted “IcyLib Press Reviews” on Twitter Spaces so his followers could weigh in. Watch a few of those clips and try to tell me this isn’t just a guy doing a conservative American caricature.

Then came the town halls, where his followers really started leaning into the bit. I just refuse to believe this shit is real, man. It’s too perfect.

I’ve been wrong before, but I’m still pretty convinced this is a guy playing a character. In a world where parody has basically become reality, I guess there’s always a chance this is just who he really is. I’m choosing to hold out hope that humanity isn’t completely cooked yet.

This will probably die off in a few days, or at least once this Flyers-Penguins series ends. But the terminally online part of me kind of wants to see how deep the rabbit hole goes.
