Phillies Booed at Flyers Game

Oh No: Phillies players got booed at the Flyers game tonight

Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, Bryson Stott, Jesus Luzardo, and a handful of other Phillies showed up to the Flyers playoff game tonight at Xfinity Mobile Arena. When they popped up on the jumbotron, the crowd booed them.

Phillies get booed at the Flyers game

Honestly the video didn’t have quite as many boos as I expected. If this happened two weeks ago in the middle of the 10-game losing streak, those guys would have been pelted with whatever was in arm’s reach but you can understand the sentiment.

The Phillies are 10-19 with the worst record in the National League. They fired their manager earlier this week all because the offense has been historically bad. Oh and the starting rotation has basically been a mess outside of Sanchez.

This team has given the city of Philadelphia absolutely nothing to feel good about for the better part of two months and now they’re sitting in the stands at a Flyers playoff game getting booed by hockey fans who are watching a team that actually competes every night.

The irony is thick.

The Flyers weren’t even supposed to make the playoffs. Nobody expected them to be here. They were a rebuilding team that caught fire after the Olympic break and now they’re up 3-2 against Pittsburgh in a first-round series that has the entire city locked in. Meanwhile the Phillies were supposed to contend for the World Series and they’re sitting at the bottom of the NL East getting booed at someone else’s sporting event.

That’s how quickly things change in the City of Brotherly Love.

One month ago the Phillies were the main attraction and the Flyers were an afterthought. Now Phillies players are showing up to Flyers games as fans and getting reminded by 20,000 people in orange that their baseball team stinks.

Tonight’s Phillies game against the Giants was postponed due to weather and rescheduled as a split doubleheader on Thursday. Game 1 starts at 12:35 p.m. with Cristopher Sanchez against Logan Webb. Game 2 is at 5:35 p.m. with both starters still TBA.

Maybe the Phillies should take notes from the Flyers tonight on what it looks like when a team actually plays with urgency and heart. Just a thought.
