Tiki Barber calls Joel Embiid a b*tch in one of the most idiotic statements I have ever seen

Let me get this straight. A former NFL running back who hosts a radio show in New York, a city currently losing its mind over a basketball team that hasn’t won a damn thing yet, hopped on WFAN and called Joel Embiid a bitch for reacting to a cheap shot aimed directly at his surgically repaired abdomen.

A grown man who played a completely different sport sat behind a microphone and questioned the toughness of a player who returned from emergency surgery three weeks ago and led a historic 3-1 comeback in the NBA playoffs.

Tiki Barber. I need you to hear yourself right now. You sound like a classless piece of shit.

Tiki Barber makes idiotic statement about Joel Embiid

What Actually Happened

Mikal Bridges drilled Embiid directly in the midsection during Game 1. Embiid got hit in the exact spot where a surgical incision from an emergency appendectomy is still healing less than three weeks later. Embiid doubled over in pain because that’s what happens when a human being recovering from abdominal surgery takes an elbow to the surgical site in a professional basketball game.

Gone in all of this tough-guy radio discourse is the fact that it was a cheap shot. Bridges targeted the area where Embiid is most vulnerable and everyone watching knew exactly what he was doing.

The Sixers’ franchise player reacted to being hit in his surgical wound and somehow Tiki Barber thinks that makes him soft.

The logic is so broken I genuinely don’t know where to start.

Tiki Barber taped a broken arm and played football. That’s tough. Nobody is disputing that. Joel Embiid had his appendix surgically removed, returned to the NBA playoffs three weeks later, dropped 33 points in an elimination Game 7 on the road in Boston, dominated Games 5, 6, and 7 to complete a historic 3-1 comeback, and is now in the second round competing at an elite level while his body is still literally healing from surgery.

Those are not the same thing. Not even in the same universe as the same thing. Playing through a taped-up broken arm in football is tough. Playing through a healing surgical incision while a 6’7 wing is deliberately targeting it with his elbow in a playoff basketball game is something else entirely.

Embiid has played through a torn meniscus, a broken orbital bone, Bell’s Palsy, and now an appendectomy in the span of four postseasons. The man’s toughness resume speaks for itself and it doesn’t need validation from a retired running back doing morning radio in Manhattan.

Mikal Bridges absolutely drilled Joel Embiid in the stomach and everyone knows it was intentional >>

The fact that Tiki Barber is sitting in a New York radio booth taking shots at Philadelphia’s best player tells me everything about what this actually is. This isn’t a tough take. This isn’t real analysis. This is a New York radio host doing his job for a New York audience that needs to be fed red meat about the opposing team’s star player. Nothing more, nothing less.

WFAN doesn’t pay Tiki Barber to be fair or accurate. They pay him to say inflammatory things about rival cities’ athletes so that callers flood the phone lines agreeing with him. It’s manufactured outrage from a manufactured personality in a city that manufactures outrage better than any place on earth.

Knicks Fans Need to Pump the Brakes

While we’re at it, the Knicks fans flooding every comment section calling Embiid soft need to take a very deep breath. Your team shot 63 percent from the field in Game 1 and still needed Tiki Barber to attack our best player on the radio to feel good about yourselves.

You’re up in a series against a seven seed that just came off a seven-game war against the Celtics on 48 hours rest. The confetti has not dropped. The trophy has not been handed out. You haven’t won anything yet and you’re already out here crowning yourselves because you beat a team that played Game 7 in Boston two days before facing you.

The 2024 Knicks fans were doing the same thing. Talking shit, flooding social media, acting like the series was over before it started. Then Embiid dropped 50 in Game 3 and Maxey went for 46 in an overtime win in Game 5. The Knicks won that series but the Sixers made them earn every second of it. This year’s team came back from 3-1 against the Celtics. You think a 2-0 deficit is going to scare them?

This Is Personal Now

Joel Embiid has been disrespected by the Knicks organization, the Knicks fans, and now the New York media for years. Bridges targeted his surgical site with a cheap shot. Barber called him a bitch on the radio.

The entire city of New York is trying to tear down a man who is out there competing at an elite level while recovering from surgery because they need to feel superior about a series that isn’t close to being over.

Embiid will get his revenge. When he’s back on the floor and healthy enough to go full throttle, the Knicks are going to remember why they spent years being terrified of him. He dropped 50 on them in 2024.

He’s capable of doing it again. The man doesn’t forget and he doesn’t forgive. I don’t want to hear a single Knicks fan complain when it happens. You had it coming. All of you.

  1. lol author of this article is an idiot and don’t know ball. Drinking your tears.

  2. I don’t agree with the first response, but I will say contact is part of the sport. Especially in the playoffs. If you can’t handle it then you’re not healthy enough to be out there. Also, three weeks is enough time for someone to be good to go after this routine procedure. It’s a baby operation that hardly counts for what people think of when they think of surgeries.

  3. Hey I’d like to request a wellness check on the author of this article. You warned us about something regarding Embiid? Or something weird like that? Still waiting to see what we were be warned about? We had it coming? Had what coming? Being up 3-0 on you and your fake ass players team? Who is the dirtiest player in the league and spends more time trying to draw fouls than take shots? oh his hip hurts? Oh hes playing after a surgery? And he took a shot? And Tiki Barber is so mean! Oh you forgot Embiid grabbed Robinson from the ground and injured him but yeah worry about what Tiki Barber thinks…. because he said Professional athletes shouldn’t complain about playing hurt… Why is everyone so mean to Embiid! lol. Idiot.
