Jaxon Smith-Njigba Wrong Trophy

The NFL sent Jaxon Smith-Njigba an Offensive Player of the Year Trophy that says Defensive Player of the Year on it

The NFL sent Jaxon Smith-Njigba his 2025 Offensive Player of the Year trophy and the plaque on it says Defensive Player of the Year. The first wide receiver in NFL history to win Defensive Player of the Year.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba posted it on his Instagram story and said “it’s getting disrespectful at this point.” He’s right. The man had a breakout season, won the Super Bowl with the Seahawks, won the most prestigious offensive individual award in the sport, and the league can’t even get the engraving right on his trophy.

That’s embarrassing for a billion-dollar organization.

The NFL sent Jaxon Smith-Njigba the wrong trophy

Incredible achievement. Must have ordered that thing from Fanatics. Pretty shitty trophy no matter what it says on it. I would just toss that thing and keep on moving, JSN. Not worth the time or effort. Funny video though.

Seriously though, how does this happen?

How does this happen? The NFL has two trophies. Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Two trophies. Two players. Two addresses. Someone packaged the Defensive Player of the Year trophy, looked at the shipping label that said Jaxon Smith-Njigba, a wide receiver, and didn’t think twice about it.

They put the wrong trophy in the wrong box and sent it to the wrong guy. That’s it. That’s the level of competence we’re working with from a multi-billion dollar organization.

I get that mistakes happen. I make them constantly but I’m not the NFL. I’m running a blog from my laptop. The NFL has entire departments dedicated to this stuff. You have two trophies and two addresses. Get them in the right boxes. That should be the easiest task anyone at the league office handles all year and somehow they fumbled it.

Does this mean Myles Garrett is sitting at home with the Offensive Player of the Year trophy? Is there a defensive end looking at a plaque that says Offensive Player of the Year wondering what happened?

Did the NFL just swap the two boxes and send both trophies to the wrong guys? Someone at the league office needs to make a phone call and figure out where the other trophy ended up because there’s a decent chance Garrett is equally confused right now.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba deserves better than this. The guy balled out all season, put up numbers nobody expected, helped lead Seattle to a championship, and the league couldn’t even get the right trophy in the right box.

Send him the correct one. Send it overnight. Send it with an apology and a gift card to somewhere that isn’t run by Fanatics. The man earned that award. The least the NFL can do is make sure he receives it.
