Strong Agree: Justin Thomas wants the PGA Tour to come back to Philly more often

The PGA Championship at Aronimink is in the books. By every measure, the event was a huge success for the region and now Justin Thomas, one of the best players in the world, is publicly campaigning for more Tour golf in the Philadelphia area.

Justin Thomas finished at five-under on Sunday and held the clubhouse lead for much of the afternoon while the final groups came in. After his round, he didn’t hesitate about how he felt about the week.

Justin Thomas on playing golf in the Philly area

“I’ve said to a couple guys, players and my caddie this week, it’s like I hope we come to this area more. It’s just a crazy amount of fans have come out, and it’s been great energy. Just the golf courses in this part of the country, I think, look great. The bent fairways, the bent greens, the rough and the bunkering, they shape really well. I enjoy the golf in this part of the country.”

Shoutout Justin Thomas.

That’s one of the best players in the world publicly campaigning for more Tour events in the Philadelphia area. The crowds at Aronimink were massive all week. The energy was legit. The course held up beautifully.

Not just the course. Not just the conditions. The fans. The energy. The atmosphere. The whole package. Justin Thomas is still working his way back from offseason back surgery and missed the cut at his season debut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.

For him to come to Aronimink, play well enough to contend on Sunday, and walk away saying he wants more events in this part of the country tells you everything about what the week meant to the players.

Philly Showed Up

The crowds at Aronimink were enormous from Thursday through Sunday. The energy was real. This wasn’t a polite golf clap crowd sitting quietly in their folding chairs. This was a Philadelphia crowd bringing Philadelphia energy to a major championship and the players noticed. Justin Thomas noticed. Multiple players commented throughout the week about the atmosphere being different from a typical Tour event.

That’s what Philly does. This city shows up for its sporting events regardless of the sport. Eagles games are deafening. Phillies games have been rocking under Mattingly. The Flyers’ playoff run had Xfinity Mobile Arena shaking. The PGA Championship at Aronimink was the same energy applied to golf and it worked. The fans were loud, engaged, and passionate in a way that elevated the entire tournament.

Aronimink Proved It Belongs

The Donald Ross course in Newtown Square held up beautifully all four days. The conditions were excellent. The logistics of hosting 40,000-plus fans daily at a suburban golf course worked. The leaderboard was compelling. The venue delivered a worthy major championship from start to finish.

Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs have the courses, the infrastructure, and the fan support to host the biggest events in golf. Aronimink showed that this week.

Merion is right down the road. Philadelphia Cricket Club. Aronimink again. There are world-class venues within a 30-minute drive of Center City that could host Tour events, major championships, or even a Ryder Cup.

Justin Thomas said he hopes the Tour comes back to this area more. The Tour should listen. The fans are here. The courses are here. The energy is here. Philly proved it this week and the players are asking to come back. That’s all you need to know.

Bring it back.
