Nobody asked for this. Literally nobody on earth woke up today and thought “I wonder where Kyle Kuzma stands on autonomous defense systems.”

Not a single person in the AI industry was sitting around waiting for a 6’9 forward who shoots 43 percent from the field to weigh in on large language models.

Sam Altman did not see the tag notification and call an emergency board meeting at OpenAI to discuss getting Kuz involved in their next product launch.

Yet here we are. The silence has been broken. We’re all very grateful.

Something Is Off With Kyle Kuzma

Here’s what’s actually interesting about this. Kuzma’s X account has gotten extremely active over the last two weeks posting about startups, markets, and prediction markets.

The account was basically dormant before that. Very docile. Normal athlete posting. Occasional basketball content. Nothing remotely related to venture capital or autonomous defense or biotech infrastructure.

Then out of nowhere, the account pivots hard into tech bro content and starts tagging CEOs and posting about AI like Kyle Kuzma just graduated from Stanford’s business school over a long weekend.

The tone is different. The vocabulary is different. The posting frequency is different. Everything about the account’s behavior changed in the span of two weeks.

I’d bet significant money that a ghostwriter is running that account right now.

Someone got hired to rebrand Kyle Kuzma from basketball player to tech-adjacent thought leader and they’re doing it through his X account with posts that sound nothing like anything Kuzma has ever said publicly.

The “breaking my silence” framing is classic PR playbook. Create the illusion that someone important has been holding back revolutionary thoughts and is finally ready to share them with the world.

Obviously, nobody was holding Kyle Kuzma back from talking about AI. A social media manager just decided it was time to start posting about it.

I saw headlines about AI and robotics every day for the last two years and thought to myself, “where is Kyle Kuzma?” The brightest minds at MIT, Stanford, and DeepMind were publishing groundbreaking research and all I could think was “this is great but where does Kuz stand on this?”

I read about breakthroughs in biotech and asked myself, “where is Mr. Kuzma?” What does the man who averaged 15 points a game for the Wizards think about CRISPR gene editing? The scientific community has been stumbling in the dark without his input.

Energy infrastructure crumbling across the country. Power grid failures. Data centers consuming unprecedented electricity. Nuclear energy making a comeback. I looked to the heavens and shouted “we need Kyle to guide us.”

Someone in the replies asked if AI can improve Kuzma’s shooting consistency and that’s the only AI-related question involving Kyle Kuzma that anyone has ever genuinely wanted answered. Forget the robotics.

Forget the energy infrastructure. Can artificial intelligence figure out why Kyle Kuzma goes 2-for-11 in big games? If OpenAI can solve that, the partnership makes perfect sense.
