Delusional: A.J. Brown leaves the most selfish message ever during his locker clean out with the Eagles

I have been a Philadelphia Eagles football for a long time. I have seen players come and go. I have seen messy departures. I have seen guys leave on bad terms and handle it with class. But I have never, not once, seen anything like what A.J. Brown did on his way out of the NovaCare Complex.

Am I shocked by what A.J. Brown has done since the news broke he was traded to the Patriots? No, not necessarily. But, wow. Just wow.

A.J. Brown leaves insane parting message to Eagles

I loved A.J. Brown as an Eagle. Genuinely, wholeheartedly, ride or die loved him. I went to bat for this man week in and week out on this site when everyone else was turning on him. When the drama started surfacing I defended him.

When the Dianna Russini reports were dropping I called those out too while simultaneously defending Brown’s right to be frustrated. I believed in him. I believed the relationship with Jalen Hurts would get fixed. I believed this city would get to see AJ Brown at his best for a few more years.

He has made me look like a complete fool. And I am not going to pretend otherwise.

Who does this? Who walks out of a building that gave them two Super Bowl appearances, one championship ring, and a $100 million contract extension and decides the appropriate farewell gesture is to declare themselves the GOAT on a wall? This is not how you honor what was built here. This is how you make it about yourself one final time on the way out the door.

Genuinely sad behavior from someone I genuinely cared about as a player in this city.

Let’s Actually Have The Greatest Eagles Receiver Conversation

The best receiver to ever play for the Philadelphia Eagles is Terrell Owens. That conversation is not close. T.O. came to Philadelphia in 2004, caught 77 passes for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns, and then played in the Super Bowl on a surgically repaired leg after breaking his ankle weeks earlier. One season. The single greatest individual performance by a wide receiver in Eagles history.

Now A.J. Brown had a great four years here. I will not pretend otherwise. Over 5,000 yards, 32 touchdowns, two Super Bowl appearances and one ring. On a per-game basis the numbers are genuinely elite and I gave him credit for every single one of them publicly and loudly on this site.

But greatest of all time? With four seasons, a final chapter full of public feuding and sideline theatrics, and a trade demand that had this entire fanbase exhausted? No. Absolutely not.

It’s truly sad this is how A.J. Brown feels and how selfishly he’s handled this whole thing. But thank goodness as Eagles fans we can finally turn the page and focus on football again.
