Unreal: Brazil bungee jump death caught on video as crew forgets to attach the rope
The Brazil bungee jump death that flooded my timeline this weekend wasn’t bad luck. It wasn’t a snapped cord or a freak gust of wind. It was a group of grown adults forgetting the single thing they existed to do.
Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas was 21. She bought a guided jump off an abandoned bridge in Limeira, São Paulo. She put on the helmet. She let the crew walk her to the edge. And then they launched her off a bridge without the rope attached.
The rope was on the ground. You can see it in the video. Somebody filming clocked it a half-second too late and started screaming about it. She was already gone, 131 feet down.
Read that again. The rope was just sitting there, on the floor, while the people whose entire job was that rope carried a 21-year-old to the ledge and let go.

What makes this Brazil bungee jump death so sickening is that there was no equipment malfunction to hide behind. The harness didn’t fail. The cord didn’t fray. The bridge didn’t betray anyone. A human being simply didn’t clip the one thing that keeps a person alive, and a few more human beings standing right there didn’t catch it.
The Brazil bungee jump death falls on the crew, not the equipment
Six people got hauled in for questioning. Three men were arrested at the scene and charged with homicide. Their defense, reportedly, is that they’re very experienced and this is the first death they’ve had in years.
A local official said the crew wasn’t even regulated, no authorization to be running anything on that bridge in the first place. So it’s an unlicensed operation, on a disused bridge, charging strangers about thirty-five bucks to get flung into the air on faith.
She joked on her Instagram right before, something about who let her come jump off a bridge. She had a fiancé. He showed up to the scene, got sick, and had to be taken to the hospital.
There’s no joke to land here. There’s a rope on the ground and a family that didn’t have to lose anybody.
