Eagles vs. Patriots joint practices could be fun but the media is going to ruin it

On Monday, the Eagles and Patriots announced the dates of their joint practice sessions this summer. The Birds will travel up to Foxborough ahead of their preseason game against New England to practice against the Pats on August 19th and 20th.

I’m sure these practices are going to have a little more juice than normal, for obvious reasons. It’ll be interesting to see how cordial it actually is between AJ Brown and the Eagles, or if some Birds defenders go after him a little bit. I’m sure it’ll be great competition.

Unfortunately, given the hellscape sports media landscape we live in, the puppeteers at WIP are just going to ruin it. They’re going to talk about all the personal shit that no one actually cares about. The morning show will probably spend the majority of their airtime debating whether or not Jalen Hurts and AJ will even talk to one another.

These are grown men playing a grown man’s sport. I know media heads like to turn this shit into reality TV for men, but there’s a fine line. The reality TV is what happens between the lines — the storylines that follow players and teams from season to season. Not the petty drama happening off the field, especially not in August when Week 1 is right around the corner.

It’s going to be all about AJ facing his former team. And to be honest, AJ probably loves that, little drama queen that he is. I don’t think any of the guys he’ll be facing during individual drills — Quinyon, Coop, or Riq Woolen — will give two shits. Quinyon doesn’t even own a television. He literally has no idea what’s happening outside of what he sees at the Eagles facility. They don’t care about the AJ shit, and they shouldn’t. They’re going to get great reps against one another, and that’s the part I’m excited to watch. Not how lovey-dovey some of the Eagles players are with AJ.
