Bryce Harper calls out FanDuel, says they had no right to use his Cameo video

Bryce Harper has finally responded to the FanDuel scandal published by the Philadelphia Inquirer, absolving himself from any wrongdoing in the whole fiasco.

Some brief context:

FanDuel sent a personalized 21-second video from Bryce Harper to Terry Thompson, a VIP customer with a crippling gambling addiction. Harper greets Thompson by name, mentions his son, and name-drops Thompson’s FanDuel VIP host, sent as a Thanksgiving 2024 perk. Thompson had wagered $18.5M through FanDuel, lost nearly $2M, foreclosed on his home, and later entered psychiatric treatment.

He’s now suing FanDuel and DraftKings, alleging their VIP programs deliberately fuel addiction. Harper isn’t named in the suit, has no known FanDuel partnership, and there’s no evidence he knew about the addiction.

Now, Bryce has his chance to set the record straight.

According to him, he had no idea about any of this. He didn’t know FanDuel was going to use the video for commercial purposes, or the situation Terry was in. Yes, the script he was handed in Cameo did mention FanDuel, but we’re talking about a guy in Bryce Harper who has a million other things going on in his life. To suggest he should have dug in more to it or reached out to FanDuel about it is kind of ridiculous.

FanDuel is the chief villian in all of this, not Bryce. I’m glad he came out and finally said his peace.
