Spike Eskin called the LeBron James signing “one of the worst days” of his Sixers fandom, proving yet again he’s nothing more than a clueless, attention-starved fraud
The entire city and the majority of the basketball world spent Thursday celebrating the news that LeBron James is coming to the Sixers, and then, like clockwork, 94.1 WIP and Spike Eskin decided to take a different route because god forbid Philadelphia gets to enjoy one unambiguously great moment without the local sports radio contrarian machine spinning it into something miserable.
In shocking news to absolutely nobody who has ever listened to this man talk, Eskin declared that LeBron James signing with the Sixers was “one of the worst days I’ve had as a Philadelphia 76ers fan.”
Laughable at best.
On one of the biggest days in the history of the franchise, the day the greatest basketball player who ever lived chose to come to Philadelphia and take less money to do it, Spike Eskin looked at his platform and decided the appropriate response was to tell his audience that he was devastated.
Spike Eskin didn’t want to join the overwhelmingly positive response on LeBron James coming to the Sixers. He wasn’t thrilled or even cautiously optimistic. In fact, he was devastated and called it one of the worst days of his Sixers fandom.

This Is the Whole Act and It Never Changes
Spike Eskin, who I genuinely don’t even like giving the attention of writing about, is a cancer to the conversation in this city and always has been.
Every time you think the absurdity of Philadelphia sports talk radio has reached a ceiling that cannot possibly be topped, Spike Eskin finds a new slant, (pun fully intended), to pull the conversation away from actual Philly sports fans and make it about himself and whatever contrarian position generates the most outrage that day.
The tell is that he doesn’t even believe half of what he says. The contrarian take isn’t a genuine basketball opinion, it’s a business model, and the business is making Spike Eskin the center of attention on a day that should be about the fans who sat through twelve years of The Process waiting for exactly this.
The tanking-obsessed thing is the part that actually gives it away.
Spike Eskin built his entire reputation on being the loudest Process evangelist in the city, the guy who romanticized the 10-win seasons and treated intentional losing like a religion, and now that the Process has actually delivered its ultimate reward, an all-time great choosing Philadelphia because of the roster those years built, he’s upset about it.
It’s not a surprise. Of course Spike Eskin hates it. A finished product means the LARPing is over. The suffering he spent a decade fetishizing has an endpoint now, and the endpoint is a championship contender, which is somehow a problem for a man who was more attached to the process of losing than the goal of winning.
At Some Point This Has to Stop
Spike Eskin represents everything wrong with Philadelphia sports radio.
On a day when the fanbase finally got the payoff it was promised, the biggest platform in the market chose to platform a take designed specifically to ruin it, and the sad part is that it works often enough that he keeps doing it.
The engagement is negative, the replies are a wall of people telling him how wrong he is, and none of it matters because the outrage is the point and the clicks all count the same.
I’ll keep it simple. LeBron James is a Philadelphia 76er.
It is one of the best days this franchise has had in 40 years. The city is celebrating, the players who recruited him are celebrating, and the fans who earned this are celebrating.
If the loudest voice in local sports radio wants to sit in the corner and tell everyone he’s having one of the worst days of his fandom, let him. The rest of us are going to enjoy the fact that the best player in the history of the sport picked our city and our team.
