VJ Edgecombe has to feel like he’s living inside a video game right now, because there is no other way to explain how quickly this kid’s basketball life has turned into a fairy tale.

When LeBron James shocked the world on Friday by announcing he was signing with the Sixers, Edgecombe reacted exactly the way every rabid Philadelphia fan did, by losing his mind, except he did it by posting a photo of himself recreating LeBron’s iconic “can’t believe this is my life” meme pose.

The only thing he forgot was the caption. Back in 2018, LeBron posted the original Instagram story lounging poolside with the line “Smiling through it all! Can’t believe this is my life.”

Edgecombe’s version had one key difference. Instead of relaxing by a pool during the offseason like LeBron was in the original, the Bahamian was clearly mid-workout in a gym, drenched in sweat, grinding through a session when the news dropped that the greatest player of all time was about to become his teammate.

That detail is perfect, honestly. Both Edgecombe and Maxey were reportedly in the middle of workouts when they found out about their new larger-than-life teammate, as if Sixers fans needed one more reason to fall in love with this young backcourt.
