Rat of the Week: Mike Sielski punishes Jalen Carter for the crime of being nice to reporters

There’s something mentally wrong with sports reporters in Philadelphia. Mike Sielski, being one of the more prominent voices in Eagles media, is the case and point.

Somewhere along the line, in the grand scheme of sports media, reporters became completely disconnected from reality. It became more about the person reporting the news than the news itself. It’s a sickness that’s infested large swaths of the media landscape.

It’ll probably never get fixed. As long as reporters like Mike Sielski exist, we’re going to always get fuck ass columns like the one he put out on Saturday.

Jalen Carter got his long awaited contract extension this past week. When speaking with the media about it, he said, “Thankful for you guys, too. You guys put out some good information, some good facts about me. We’re all one family.”

If you read that and thought, “Nice, that’s a mature, thoughtful comment from Carter. I bet those reporters sure feel good about themselves after hearing that!” you’re a normal person. When Sielski heard that, he got a rage boner so hard he immediately ran to Twitter to punish himself in front of his followers.

Who says shit like this? Seriously. Why is that the first thing you Tweet after hearing what Jalen Carter said?

It’s mental illness and I genuinely hope Mike Sielski takes a leave of absence to get treatment. I can’t have mentally handicapped, narcissistic reporters writing about my teams anymore. Just can’t have it.

Let’s take this one from the top. Jalen Carter gets extended, he thanks the media for being truthful about their reporting about him and not writing fabricated bullshit, only for Mike Sielski to turn around and write a bullshit article that shits on everything Carter just said about you and your fellow reporters. I mean, you can’t make it up.

It’s almost instinctive for these vermin. Like, they can’t exist knowing players appreciate that they did a good job reporting on them. It’s fucking bananas, man. You’re subhuman if this is how you think and float through your life. Someone thanks you for not writing clickbait bullshit about them, only to go back and write clickbait bullshit about them.

Mike Sielski seems to think that what Carter said was anything other than that. Like Carter now expects all reporters to write fluff pieces for him. That’s not what he said at all. He was just appreciative that none of the rat reporters in this town wrote ‘character concerns’ hit pieces that were unfounded. I guess that bullshit is reserved for whoever’s quarterbacking the team.

Here’s Mike Sielski’s follow up when asked why he’s turning this whole thing into a negative for no reason:

I’m not making it anything. What he said is incorrect. I’m pointing that out in explaining why he’s wrong. I’m not there to make him feel good about himself or to make fans feel good about themselves. I’m there to give an honest perspective.

The fact that he meant it as a positive is irrelevant. It. Is. Wrong. And it feeds the idea that those of us who cover professional sports critically are there to be cheerleaders. We’re not. And a website’s comments aren’t the first place I’d look to for rational feedback.

You’re not that important, Mike. No one is. You’re a reporter. You get paid to write about what people say and do. No one wants your shitty opinion. To sit here and get all worked up is embarrassing.

“I’m here to report critically on players, I’m not a cheerleader!”

Bitch, no one said you were! And by the way, when have you ever written anything remotely thoughtful while also still being critical? Never. You’re a waste of a byline. And now I’m mad Carter even said anything nice about you or your reporter buddies.

If fans had it their way, your profession wouldn’t exist. No one is interested in what a bunch of nerds have to say about our sports teams. People are smart enough to form their own opinions if you let them. And you think we’re supposed to wait around like lost puppies, waiting for your glorious opinion. Fuck off. Your opinion serves no one except yourself because you have no real purpose. You write not to give people food for thought, it’s simply to feed your own ego while cosplaying as a sports intellect.

You’re a bum. Nothing more, nothing less.
