LeBron James mural appears in Fairmount, painted by the same artist behind the Jalen Hurts wall

LeBron James officially has a mural in Philadelphia, and I’m not going to pretend I’m above it.

It went up in Fairmount this weekend. Black Sixers jersey. No. 23. Red-and-blue background. The signature next to it — @billstro4_art — belongs to Bill Strobel, the same Philly artist who put Jalen Hurts on a wall in Fairmount before the Super Bowl run. The man has range. Also apparently a sixth sense for when this city is about to lose its mind.

The Sixers announced LeBron James would wear 23 less than a week ago. The paint is already dry.

Remember 2018? The billboards? The full-court recruiting press? A Philadelphia contingent sat down with Rich Paul, made the pitch, and LeBron James went to Los Angeles anyway. We spent eight years watching him win in purple and gold while this franchise cycled through eras like a haunted laundromat.

Now he’s here. Forty-one years old, four rings, and one final decision left in the tank, and the decision was us.

Every mock-up jersey graphic from 2018 that made you roll your eyes just became real. The mural isn’t a recruiting pitch. It isn’t a fan campaign begging a superstar to notice us. It’s a celebration of something that already happened.

There’s a difference, and it feels incredible.

Fairmount is the right wall

Strobel put Hurts up in Fairmount before a Super Bowl. Then the Eagles went to the Super Bowl. I’m not saying the man’s walls are load-bearing for Philadelphia championships. I’m just saying the sample size is interesting.

This city hasn’t won an NBA title since 1983. LeBron has won four, across three franchises. If he gets one here, he’s the first player ever to win with four different teams, and he’d be doing it in the one city that’s been starving longer than his entire career has existed.

Yes, there are real questions. Health. Fit. How a roster with Embiid, Maxey, Jaylen Brown, VJ Edgecombe, and a 41-year-old LeBron actually shares one basketball. Those questions matter in October.

Right now, there’s a wall in Fairmount with LeBron James in a Sixers jersey on it, and it’s not photoshop.

Go look at it. Take the walk. It’s real.
