Saquon says Eagles landed the steal of the offseason

The Eagles traded a fifth and a sixth for Dontayvion Wicks, and Saquon Barkley is already calling him the steal of the offseason.

The best running back on the planet went on Up & Adams this week and said the quiet part into a microphone.

“Tay is a steal. I don’t want to put too much pressure, but this guy can handle it. I love everything he’s about. Shout out to Howie. I don’t know how we got him.”

I don’t know how we got him.

That’s a man who has been in NFL locker rooms since 2018, looking at a trade and going “huh?”

What the Eagles actually gave up

Let’s be honest about the ledger first, because I know what this receiver room lost. AJ Brown is in New England. That’s a real hole for the Eagles, and no amount of camp hype fills it on paper. DeVonta Smith slides back to WR1, which he’s earned, but the two spot behind him was a legitimate question mark in April.

Now look at the price tag on the answer.

A 2026 fifth-round pick. A 2027 sixth-round pick. That’s it. That’s the whole invoice for a 25-year-old receiver with three years and 46 games of NFL experience, 108 catches, 1,328 yards, and 11 touchdowns. He signed a one-year extension the second he landed here, so this wasn’t a rental panic either.

Fifth-round picks turn into camp bodies. Sixth-round picks turn into “who?” Howie Roseman turned them into a starting receiver.

Saquon’s scouting report says everything

Barkley didn’t just call Wicks a steal and move on. He gave the full breakdown.

“He just brings a different type of energy for the wide receiver group. Not just because he’s a violent route runner and violent catching the ball, but he puts his face in there and blocks at a high level.”

A receiver who blocks. In this offense. With this running back.

Of course Saquon loves him. Wicks putting his face in there on the edge is the difference between an eight-yard Barkley run and a house call. The last regime in Green Bay had this guy buried on a depth chart. Howie found him in the couch cushions.
