Cornell University banned students from butchering wild game in communal kitchens after two dudes skinned a black bear in the dorm
Cornell University, the New York Ivy League institution, has officially banned students from preparing wild game in communal kitchens after two students skinned and butchered an entire black bear in a shared dorm kitchen last year.
Sounds pretty freaking awesome, right? Unfortunately, Cornell University did not agree and read the entire situation completely wrong.
According to The Cornell Daily Sun, back in September two students legally hunted an adult black bear, then brought it back and skinned and butchered it in a communal kitchen in Ganędagǫ: Hall, a residence hall on North Campus.

The new policy, tucked into the university’s guidelines for the upcoming academic year, now states that “processing wild/game animals in community kitchens is strictly prohibited.”
So instead of fresh bear pastrami, prepared exactly as God and nature intended, Cornell students will now be forced back onto the high-fructose dorm slop like everyone else.
A tragedy, really.
College degrees aren’t worth what they used to be. Tuition costs an absolute fortune and the American Dream is dead. No one believes that doing well in high school, going to college, and earning a degree means shit anymore. The job market doesn’t match the price of school and the housing market is a complete mess. It just doesn’t add up.
Mix in an Ivy League school and pretty much everyone is in agreement that they are the softest group of kids in America. I’m not saying that’s accurate (it definitely is) but you know what I mean. Cornell University played a perfect hand in the worst way possible.
This could have changed how everyone views the Ivy League, instead they butchered the situation worse than that tasty black bear the kids were cooking up in Ganędagǫ: Hall. When a couple of strapping young men manage to get accepted into your prestigious university AND have the skills and the sheer audacity to skin a black bear you don’t punish them.
Those are the people you want in your corner. Those are survivors and Cornell just told them to knock it off and go microwave a TV dinner instead.
I’m telling you, a little more bear guts in the communal kitchen space would have done your overly-prestigious Ivy League school a world of good.
Toughen the place up. Build some grit. Lean into it. These guys deserve a parade and that black bear belt should be in a school trophy case. Black bear pastrami is about as spirited as it gets, and Cornell fumbled the whole thing.
