Lane Johnson says 2026 is probably his last season

Lane Johnson told reporters Saturday that this season is probably his last one. Just a great Eagle telling you the end is coming.

Johnson has been away from camp dealing with personal matters, and on Saturday he shared that his mother is dealing with health issues. He said the off-field stuff has been building for a few years, he thought about walking away after last season, and now the priorities outside football are catching up to the ones inside it.

“As you get older, things change in your life,” Lane Johnson said. “Priorities, your children get older, parents get older. It just puts things into perspective.”

Not much to add to that.

The résumé is airtight. Thirteen years, all in Philadelphia. Two Super Bowls. Six Pro Bowls. Two All-Pro seasons. The No. 4 pick in 2013 who became the standard at right tackle for over a decade.

And he’s not limping to the finish, either. Lane Johnson said his movement feels good and that he still believes he can be a premier tackle in this league. Last year’s Lisfranc injury cost him seven regular season games and the playoff loss, but he came back anyway, new offensive line coach and all, because he wanted one more.

He said he plans on having a really good last year. Take him at his word. He’s earned that much.

If this is really it, the Eagles owe him the correct ending. Hurts, Saquon, DeVonta Smith, one of the best defenses in football, the pieces are there for a real run.

Johnson has given this franchise everything since 2013. He played through the bad years, anchored the good ones, and won two rings doing it.

One more season. Send him out a winner.
