If the Sixers won’t sign Ben Simmons, he should make his way back through open tryouts for the Delaware Blue Coats
I’ve got a new plan for the Ben Simmons reunion, and I’m only about half joking. The Delaware Blue Coats, the Sixers’ G League affiliate, just announced they’re holding open tryouts, and I think Benny Boy needs to lace them up and show up.
Here are the details for anyone interested, Ben Simmons included: the Blue Coats will hold open tryouts on 9/12 at 9 a.m. at Rowan University, and again on 10/4 at 8 a.m. at the Chase Fieldhouse in Wilmington, with registration required.
Ben Simmons should join Blue Coats open tryouts
Now picture it. A three-time NBA All-Star, two-time All-Defensive selection, rolling up to a Blue Coats open tryout at 9 a.m. at Rowan, ready to work his way back to Philadelphia from the ground floor.
If the Sixers won’t clear the cap space to sign him outright, then fine, Ben takes the scenic route. Grind through the G League tryout, ball out against a bunch of hopefuls chasing a dream, earn a spot in Wilmington, and force his way back up to the big club the old-fashioned way.
The Ben Simmons redemption arc would be even better if it started at the Chase Fieldhouse.
The fact that Ben Simmons has been campaigning so hard, posting LeBron’s sneakers, dropping jumper videos, showing up to camp in Australia with zero restrictions, tells me he genuinely wants this.
So if the front office keeps dragging its feet on clearing the room, Ben Simmons, the door at Rowan University is wide open on September 12th.
Show up, put on a show, and Complete The Process the hardest way possible.
