Let me paint the picture of the dumbest NFL story of the week. The single biggest news in the entire league yesterday was that Jalen Hurts threw an interception during Eagles Training Camp.

We aren’t talking about the regular season. Hell, we aren’t talking about the preseason either. Let me channel my inner-Iverson because we’re talkin’ about PRACTICE. 16 MILLION views from football fans who stopped what they are were doing to watch Jalen Hurts throw an interception at practice.

Let’s Talk About the “Fans” for a Second

This is really a story about the sorry state of NFL “fans” on social media. These people, and I use the term fans loosely, sit around all day refreshing their timelines desperate for any morsel of Jalen Hurts content they can twist into a negative.

Doesn’t matter. A practice rep or a single throw will do. Literally anything. The second the Eagles post it, vultures swarm like it was breaking national news. The pearl clutching is absolutely insane.

God forbid the Eagles would DARE post footage of their own player making a play, right?

Jalen Hurts got picked by Quinyon Mitchell, a FIRST-TEAM ALL-PRO. This isn’t some practice-squad nobody who got signed off the street that morning. It’s one of the best corners in the entire sport doing his job at practice.

Of course, context doesn’t matter to these people, because the goal was never honesty. The goal was another excuse to talk about Jalen Hurts.

Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills posted a clip of Josh Allen throwing a pick to some guy named Dee Alford, who was playing in the CFL a couple years ago. 524,700.

Almost like one of these quarterbacks lives rent-free in the head of every football fan in America and the other doesn’t. Go figure.

It’s ALWAYS Jalen Hurts

Ask yourself the real questions here. Why is Jalen Hurts ALWAYS the topic of conversation? Why does every show, every timeline, every debate somehow circle back to him?

A Super Bowl MVP throws a meaningless practice pick and it’s the lead story in the sport for 24 hours. That doesn’t happen by accident. That happens because the NFL and its fanbases are completely, hopelessly obsessed with this man.

It’s not the good kind of obsession they give everyone else, either.

When Hurts wins, it’s because his receivers were open, the line gave him all day, and Saquon opened up the offense on the ground. When the Eagles lose, it’s because Hurts played like garbage and cost them the game.

He’s the only quarterback in football who gets treated like a coach, blamed for every loss and credited for none of the wins. Normally a Super Bowl MVP gets a 24/7 glazefest. Hurts gets a 24/7 witch hunt.

That leads me to believe that the difference is jealousy, plain and simple.

When something happens with the Eagles, the entire sports world stops and pays attention, because we drive the conversation like no other fanbase can.

That’s what happens when you’ve got the face of the league and the loudest, most passionate fanbase on the planet behind him.
