Former Eagles RB gets arrested for DUI
Eagles fans have a soft spot for Miles Sanders. Four seasons, a Super Bowl run, a Pro Bowl year where he looked like the steal of the 2019 draft. That version of Sanders feels like a different person right now.
Court records show Sanders was arrested for DUI back in June in Churchill Borough, Pennsylvania, just outside Pittsburgh. Police found him slumped over behind the wheel of his Lexus, parked in the middle of William Penn Highway. Not pulled over. Not parked wrong. In the middle of the road.
Officers said he was in and out of consciousness. Extremely lethargic. He reportedly admitted to drinking earlier that day, and police found marijuana in the car. He failed field sobriety tests and blew positive on a breath test.
The Eagles chapter feels like a lifetime ago
Sanders hasn’t worn Eagles green since 2022, but this is still the guy Philly drafted in the second round, the guy who ran for 1,269 yards and made a Pro Bowl before cashing in on a four-year, $25 million deal with Carolina that fell apart fast. A one-year stop in Dallas last season ended after four games and a season-ending knee and ankle injury. He’s been a free agent since, and this DUI arrest isn’t going to speed up any phone calls from front offices.
His agent’s response was one line: this is a private matter, no further comment. Fine. But slumped over in a Lexus in the middle of a highway isn’t exactly a private matter once it’s a police report.
Sanders has a preliminary hearing set for Sept. 23. Whatever happens with the charges, the Eagles portion of this story already reads like the good old days. What comes next for him is a lot murkier.
