Sixers add Tacko Fall, Jameer Nelson Jr., and Saint Thomas on Exhibit 10 contracts

The Sixers made a few little housekeeping moves before training camp opens in Camden, adding center Tacko Fall, guard Jameer Nelson Jr., and forward Saint Thomas on Exhibit 10 contracts.

Now before anybody in this city starts cooking up a depth-chart spreadsheet, pump the brakes. These are non-guaranteed deals that give guys a crack at a two-way contract and bring some bodies and size for camp battles. I genuinely wouldn’t read one ounce into this. It’s standard end-of-bench filler on a team that’s already stacked to the ceiling.

These camp hopefuls are walking into a locker room headlined by LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey. So Fall, Nelson, and Thomas aren’t exactly strolling into open playing time. They’re scrapping for the very last spots on a legit title contender, which is precisely what Exhibit 10 deals exist for.

Camp fodder, nothing more.

That said, let’s talk about the Tacko Fall signing, because the 7-foot-6 monster does bring one funny little wrinkle to the table. Tacko could theoretically be your designated Wemby stopper. When you need pure, ridiculous length to throw at Victor Wembanyama, a dude who can stare him dead in the eyeballs isn’t the craziest insurance policy in the world.

Social media is having a field day with that one except here’s the problem with that whole pitch. Joel Embiid already does that job, and he does it better than anybody alive.

Not only does Embiid handle Wemby on defense, he turns the kid into absolute swiss cheese on the other end. Need I remind everyone he hung a SEVENTY burger on his head a few years back? Seventy.

So the “we need a Wemby stopper” conversation kind of dies on the vine when your MVP big man is already suffocating him AND dropping 70 on him for dessert. Cute idea, but that department’s more than covered, thank you very much.

I will say, Taco Tuesday is officially back in Philadelphia, and I could not be more thrilled about it. Tacko Fall on this roster means the glorious return of one of the best fan-favorite bits we’ve had in years, and I’m all the way in. Doesn’t matter if the man never logs a single meaningful minute. Having Tacko around camp is a straight-up gift. Big fella, big fun, elite vibes, unbeatable content. That alone justifies the signing in my book.

Don’t overthink these deals. They’re depth pieces, most of them long shots to stick, and none of it moves the needle on a team chasing a ring.
